Poland and Austria faced off during the last round of play-offs for the Women’s EURO 2025. The two went head-to-head before in Group A4 in the qualifiers that started in April 2024. Poland lost both legs miserably but completely turned it around this time. Find out how the nation secured their ticket.

Poland is 13th final candidate for the Women’s EURO 2025
Poland lost every qualifier in Group A4 against Iceland, Austria and Germany. They did get a second chance against Romania and won both legs confidently. Their final opponent was Austria again. Poland lost 1-3 and 3-1 to them earlier this year so the odds were not in their favor.
The first leg at home ended in a 1-0 win after Padilla scored the one and only goal in the 57th minute. The second leg was goalless until the OT in the second half. It was FC Barcelona player Ewa Pajor that found the back of the net. Poland would have been through on aggregate either way but ending a match on a high with a goal is always better.
Austria misses out
The nation was one of the strongest teams in the final play-offs but could not live up to their potential this time. Austria qualified for Women’s EURO in 2017 (reaching the semi-finals) and 2022 (getting to the last four). They had previously lost a 2013 play-off to Russia and were beaten by Scotland in a 2023 World Cup play-off.
