What the WSL Table Means Right Now
Manchester City remain top of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League after Matchweek 6, maintaining their perfect record with a 3-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. Khadija Shaw scored twice as City moved onto 18 points from six matches.
Chelsea remain their closest challengers, two points behind in second. Sonia Bompastor’s side produced the weekend’s biggest victory, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 6-2 at Stamford Bridge. Lauren James and Ellie Carpenter both scored twice as Chelsea extended their unbeaten start.
London City Lionesses strengthened their position in third with a 2-1 home victory over Everton. Goals from Delphine Cascarino and Freya Godfrey secured their fifth league win, taking them to 15 points and opening a five-point gap over fourth-placed Tottenham.
Tottenham remain fourth on goal difference despite consecutive heavy defeats, while Manchester United have moved level with them on 10 points following a 3-1 win at Charlton Athletic.
Arsenal’s difficult start continued with a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City. The Gunners have now gone five consecutive league matches without a victory and sit eighth with six points.
Further down the table, Aston Villa recorded their first league win by beating Liverpool 2-1, while West Ham United secured a valuable 1-0 away victory against Crystal Palace.
Brighton have dropped to 12th with five points, while Birmingham City occupy the relegation play-off position on three. Charlton Athletic remain bottom after six consecutive defeats, still searching for their first point of the campaign.

How WSL Positions Are Decided
Women’s Super League positions are determined by the number of points each club collects across the season. Teams receive three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. The club finishing with the most points is crowned WSL champion.
If two or more clubs finish level on points, goal difference is the first tie-breaker. If their goal difference is also equal, the team that has scored the most goals is placed higher. The next deciding factors are the number of matches won and then the clubs’ head-to-head league records. If the teams still cannot be separated and their final positions must be decided, a play-off match or series of matches can be arranged.
Under the current European allocation, the WSL’s top three teams qualify for the following season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League. The precise entry stage for each position is determined by UEFA’s access list, with the arrangements for the 2027/28 competition still to be confirmed.
The expanded 14-team WSL also introduces new consequences at the bottom of the table. The club finishing 14th is automatically relegated to WSL 2 and replaced by the second-tier champions. The team finishing 13th must contest a promotion-relegation play-off against the WSL 2 runners-up, with the winner securing a place in the following season’s WSL.
