Matchday 3 games to watch
There are several major fixtures in the third round of the league phase.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid is one of Wednesday’s standout games. Bayern have four points after two matches following a 2-2 draw with Manchester City and a 3-0 victory over Benfica. Real Madrid have drawn both of their opening games, against PSG and Manchester City.
Arsenal will look to remain unbeaten when they host Benfica. The Gunners have four points after beating HB Køge 1-0 before drawing 2-2 away to Paris FC.
Chelsea are also unbeaten and yet to concede. They opened with a 1-0 victory over Austria Wien before playing out a goalless draw away to OL Lyonnes.
Thursday brings another major test for Manchester City. City have drawn both of their opening Champions League games 2-2 against Bayern Munich and 1-1 against Real Madrid. They now face a PSG side that followed its 1-1 draw in Madrid with an emphatic 5-0 victory over OH Leuven.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are the only side to have won both of their opening matches. They beat Paris FC 5-2 before recording a 6-0 away victory over Roma.

How does the Women’s Champions League league phase work?
The 2026/27 season is the second campaign using the 18-team league-phase format.
Instead of traditional groups, all 18 clubs compete in one league table.
Each team plays six matches against six different opponents, with three games at home and three away.
Once all six matchdays have been completed:
- Teams finishing 1st to 4th qualify directly for the quarter-finals.
- Teams finishing 5th to 12th enter the knockout phase play-offs.
- Teams finishing 13th to 18th are eliminated.
The knockout phase play-offs will be played in February 2027.
