Jenna Nighswonger signed for Arsenal in January 2025. The full-back joined from Gotham FC, after making her way through the college system with Florida State Seminoles, scoring 19 goals and providing 34 assists in 86 appearances as the Seminoles won the 2021 National Championship.

In 2023, Nighswonger was drafted to Gotham FC, making 46 appearances and scoring four goals for the club. Her impressive season earned her a transfer to Arsenal in the Women’s Super League.

Once at Arsenal, things did not go as planned for the full-back. She rarely played; some matchdays she was not even included in the squad, often warming the bench – despite injuries in the team.

Many were wondering when Nighswonger would leave Arsenal, as she also did not receive a call-up from USWNT head coach Emma Hayes recently. Now we have the answer: Nighswonger has joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season. The deal includes an option to buy.

Words from Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers
