The top tier women’s football league in Portugal is the Campeonato Nacional Feminino (Liga BPI). The league started in 1993 and is controlled by the Portugese Football Federation. There are currently twelve team in the league and the winner gets a ticket to the Women’s Champions League qualifying round. Benfica won their fourth consecutive title in the 2023/2024 season and are now at the top of the table with 40 points.
The league follows the double round robin system which comes down to a total of 22 games. The two teams at the bottom of the table relegate to the Campeonato Nacional II Divisão.
