BK Häcken have appointed Elena Sadiku as their new head coach, with the Swede returning home after a trophy-laden spell at Celtic to take charge of the reigning champions of the OBOS Damallsvenskan. The 32-year-old has signed a three-year contract and succeeds Mak Lind, who led the club to their first-ever Swedish title on the women’s side earlier this year, who this season guided Häcken to their first-ever Swedish championship on the women’s side, followed by a memorable European Cup run that included eliminating Inter before reaching the quarter-finals.
More on Elena Sadiku
Sadiku joined Celtic in January 2024 as the club’s first-ever female head coach and made an immediate impact by leading them to their first Scottish Women’s Premier League title. That domestic success was followed by a landmark European campaign, as she guided Celtic into the UEFA Women’s Champions’ League group stage for the first time, earning her the SWPL Coach of the Year award.
Forced to retire as a player at 23 due to injury, Sadiku quickly transitioned into coaching and has since held roles at FC Rosengård, Fortuna Hjørring, Eskilstuna United, Everton’s U21 side, and Celtic. She will begin work with BK Häcken in early January ahead of the 2026 season, with a European Cup quarter-final against Breidablik scheduled for 11 February.
Who is the new Celtic Women Head Coach?
Meanwhile, Celtic have moved quickly to confirm Grant Scott as Sadiku’s successor. Scott arrives with a strong track record in Scottish women’s football, having led Hibernian to an SWPL title in the 2024/25 season and previously delivered a domestic cup double during his first spell at the club. Celtic thanked Sadiku for her historic contribution, highlighting her role in delivering the club’s first league title and Champions League group-stage appearance, while expressing confidence that Scott’s experience and leadership will help drive the next phase of growth for Celtic FC Women.
