FC Twente vs. Chelsea Preview: Team News & Possible Lineups

FC Twente Women Football Team vs Chelsea Women Football Team Lineups are derived from previous match days. We take into consideration how strong the opponents are, what players are injured and of course team news before the match.

Team News FC Twente

FC Twente have made a perfect start to their domestic campaign, topping the Vrouwen Eredivisie with four wins from four and a narrow two-point cushion over Ajax. Their strong form also carried into Europe, where they comfortably dispatched GKS Katowice 8–1 on aggregate to book their spot in the Women’s Champions League league phase. We expect a fully fit squad for Corina Dekker to face Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League.

What the coach has to say

Head coach Corina Dekker on facing Chelsea: “We want to do things differently than last year [when Twente lost 3-1 at home and 6-1 away against Chelsea]. The team gave away a lot of space because we pressed so high, then [Chelsea] just played through them. Chelsea are a world-class team, and we are not. That’s not a bad thing at all, but it means you have to be a bit smarter.”

Words from Captain Van Ginkel: “We’ve remained almost intact as a team [since last season] and have had another year to develop. We’ll approach things a little differently to last season. Back then, we went full-on pressing, one-on-one. I hope we’ve matured a bit and can address what we did wrong last year. All of Chelsea’s players are top quality, but we shouldn’t put ourselves down. We are not expected to win, but we can win.”

Team News Chelsea

Latest team update for Chelsea, including updates on Bronze, Charles, Girma and James:

“We decided for her [Macario] not to travel with the team. She will be fine for the weekend’s game against Tottenham, and all except for her, everyone who played on Friday is available.

“She [Macario] has a bit of inflammation around the Achilles. This is something we have been managing for weeks now, and we just felt maybe the best plan was for her to stay and not to have to travel with the team.”

Lucy Bronze, Niamh Charles, Naomi Girma, and Lauren James have also not travelled as they continue their respective recoveries from injury.

“They are training fully with the team now, so it’s really positive news. It’s too early for them to be involved in the game tomorrow, but they are in a good place to be available for the game against Tottenham.”

What the coach has to say

Head coach Sonia Bompastor on playing in the Women’s Champions League: “We are really excited to start a new format in this competition. Playing in the Champions League is the highest-level club competition, and we already said we have a lot of ambitions as a club at Chelsea. We want to perform at our best level in this competition and make sure we go as far as we can.”
