Hammarby IF have added both quality and experience to their midfield with the arrival of Elin Sørum, one of Rosenborg’s most consistent performers in recent years. After eight seasons in Norway’s top flight, the 25-year-old is ready for a new challenge, and Hammarby believe they’ve secured a player who can make an immediate impact.
Who is Elin Sørum?
Sørum is already familiar with green and white colours. Growing up in Tromsø, she came through the ranks at IF Fløya, making her senior debut at just 15 and playing a key role in both the club’s promotion push and its survival in the second tier, capped by a decisive brace in the 2017 season finale. Her potential soon drew wider attention, and at 17 she headed 1,130 kilometres south to join Toppserien side SK Trondheims-Ørn. By then, she had become a fixture in Norway’s youth national teams, earning 44 caps.
When Ørn integrated into Rosenborg in 2020, Sørum remained central to the midfield as the newly strengthened club returned to the top end of Norwegian football. Rosenborg have finished in the top three every year since, highlighted by an unbeaten inaugural season and a Norwegian Cup triumph in 2023. After 157 league appearances and 27 goals, Sørum now leaves Norway ready for the next chapter in Sweden.
What Elin Sørum has to say
“I felt it was time for a change of environment and to take a step up in my career, to develop further as a player. I know the sporting level here is very high, and I already know several players in the squad who have spoken very highly of the club. It’s incredibly exciting, of course, and I’m really looking forward to playing with the support of the fans behind me.”
Words from the Sporting Director
“We’re very happy that Elin has chosen to join us at Hammarby. She’s an experienced player despite being only 25, and she has clear leadership qualities, having at times served as captain at Rosenborg. We’re getting a midfielder who will come in from day one, contribute immediately and take responsibility. She has been very clear that she wants to help push Hammarby forward,” says Arnór Smárason.
