The North Carolina Courage have announced the termination of head coach Sean Nahas’ contract. In a statement, the club said: “The North Carolina Courage remain focused on the continued development of the team and maintaining a professional, competitive environment for players, staff, and supporters.”

Nahas first joined the Courage in 2017 as an assistant coach. Four years later, he stepped into the interim head coach role after Paul Riley was fired following allegations of sexual coercion by former players. Riley was later banned for life from the NWSL.

Since becoming the full-time head coach, Nahas led the team to two NWSL Challenge Cup titles (2022 and 2023) and secured playoff appearances in the last two seasons. His original contract was set to run through the 2026 season.

However, despite past successes, the club’s current form has been underwhelming. The Courage sit in 9th place with just 19 points, having won only five of their 14 games. The tone of the club’s statement suggests there may have been factors beyond on-field performance contributing to the decision.
