Tottenham Hotspur have signed Julie Blakstad from Hammarby IF. Her contract with the Swedish club had expired, allowing her to join the WSL side on a free transfer.
The 24-year-old began her football career with Ottestad IL before moving to FL Fart and competing at the highest level in Norway. She soon caught the eye of FC Rosengård, signing with the club where she scored 17 goals in 35 appearances, won the Toppserien Young Player of the Year award in 2021, and featured in the Women’s Champions League.
Blakstad played for Manchester City in the 2022/23 season, winning the Women’s League Cup. She then joined BK Häcken on loan in March 2023 before returning to Sweden to sign for Hammarby IF in January 2024. During her time at Hammarby, she enjoyed her most productive season to date, registering 21 goal involvements in 26 games.
Blakstad also brings international pedigree to Tottenham Hotspur. She made her debut for Norway in 2020, has since earned 31 caps, and featured at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Words from Julie Blakstad and Head Coach Martin Ho
Julie Blakstad said: “This is such a great Club, I’m so excited to start. This is a club with ambitions, I know both the players and staff have high ambitions, which I really like. They focus on development, which is really important for me, and I’ve always said I want to play against the best players as often as I can. I can’t wait to meet everyone in the team.”
Head Coach Martin Ho said: “Julie is a modern, dynamic full-back who brings a real attacking edge to her game. She combines pace, technical quality and game intelligence with the ability to consistently impact the game in the final third, while still delivering the defensive intensity and discipline required at the highest level. Julie’s bravery in possession, timing of her forward runs and quality of decision-making mean she will regularly influence decisive moments in advanced areas.
“She was a clear priority for us, and despite strong competition from a number of top clubs in England and across Europe, Julie chose Tottenham Hotspur as the best environment to continue her development. That decision reflects her ambition, belief in our project, and the clarity of our vision.
