Melvine Malard Scores the Opener

The match began with PSG threatening first, when Jennifer Echegini’s fierce strike from long range rattled the post in the early minutes. The visitors looked lively through winger Abijade down the right flank, despite being well defended by Manchester United’s Sandberg.

The opening 20 minutes were balanced, with neither side able to take full control. Manchester United enjoyed slightly more possession but struggled to break down PSG’s solid defensive line, marshalled by Mbock and De Almeida.

United eventually broke through in the 31st minute. A clever pass from Riviere found Melvine Malard. The French forward beat Mbock for pace, cut back onto her left foot and slotted the ball calmly past Mary Earps into the far corner for 1–0.

PSG responded well, piling on pressure through corners and crosses, though without the finishing touch. Just before half-time, however, they found their equaliser, and in style. New summer signing Olga Carmona, cutting in from the left, unleashed a stunning long-range effort with her left foot that flew into the top-right corner, leaving goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel with no chance. The sides went into the break level at 1–1.

Manchester United Find the Net Again

PSG started the second half strongly, Echegini again testing Middleton-Patel with a dangerous shot, but the young United keeper, stepping in for the injured Phallon Tullis-Joyce, made a crucial save. From the resulting corner, Gabby George cleared under pressure to keep things level.

The game opened up in the final 30 minutes as both sides chased a winner, and it was Manchester United who struck next. A flowing move down the left saw Jess Park glide past two PSG defenders before slipping the ball wide to Sandberg. The Swedish international whipped in a perfectly measured cross, met by Rolfö, whose powerful header found the back of the net to make it 2–1.

The visitors pushed late for another equaliser, with substitute Gilbert going close in the 87th minute after a defensive lapse from Maya Le Tissier, only for Riviere to recover brilliantly with a last-ditch block. Six minutes of stoppage time followed, but United held firm to claim all three points.

It was a hard-fought, high-quality contest with strong performances from both sides. Middleton-Patel’s composure in goal, Park’s creativity, and Rolfö’s decisive finish stood out for United, who now sit alongside Lyon and Barcelona as the only teams with three wins from three.
