VfL Wolfsburg have announced the contract extension of Joelle Wedemeyer through June 2029. The defender first joined the club in January 2011 from MTV Wolfenbüttel, progressing from the U17s to the U20s. In the 2013/2014 season, Wedemeyer moved into the first team and has since made 137 appearances in the Frauen-Bundesliga, 42 in the Women’s Champions League, and 29 in the DFB-Pokal. The 29-year-old has won 17 titles in her 15 years with the club and will now remain for an additional three years.

Words from Joelle Wedemeyer

“I’m happy and proud to be staying at VfL Wolfsburg for another three years – this is simply my club,” Wedemeyer said. “I truly enjoy working with this team, and I’m glad that I can actively help shape the DNA of VfL, including through my role on the team council. Our squad has tremendous potential, and I’m confident we can achieve a lot together.”

What the Director of Women’s Football had to say

Ralf Kellermann, Director of Women’s Football at VfL Wolfsburg, said:

“Joelle has long been one of the biggest figures of identification at VfL Wolfsburg, extending far beyond women’s football. She knows the club like almost no one else and has grown from a youth player into a true personality who now serves as a role model for young talents. On the pitch, she impresses with remarkable consistency and versatility in defence. Beyond that, as a complete team player with a highly professional attitude, she is an important part of our squad off the pitch as well. We are therefore delighted that Joelle has committed to Wolfsburg long-term and extended her contract by three years.”
