Smerud’s perspective on relegation: “I think these situations are very interesting from a psychological perspective.I think going into the game we played where there was a lot at stake, you could see the pressure getting to us and a lot of uncertainty shows up.

“What’s going to happen with me? What’s going to happen with the club, what’s next? I’ve told them that this is a great opportunity to learn from that. How do you deal with that kind of uncertainty? We are determined to show a different side of us after that performance on Sunday, which we didn’t like at all.

“Then it’s to see how different people cope in different ways. It’s finding what you need to do now to start performing again.”

Amandine Miquel gave the following update on her squad: “There’s no new injuries,” the Manager explained. “It’s the same kwith CJ [Bott], I’m not sure if she will be back. Many things are difficult with injuries and so we will have to see.”

“We’re trying to keep all of our injured players positive which is not easy with the EUROs this summer being an objective,” she continued.

“We still have time ahead of that tournament so we’re trying to get those players back fit, both physically and mentally so that they have a chance of going.”

Miquel after the defeat to Manchester City: “The game plan worked quite well, even better I felt in the second half. We ended up taking a goal because we didn’t slide quick enough in the box.

“But still then, I think we had enough occasions to score at least one goal and we’re disappointed to not do that.

“It was a good unit, when you defend a bit lower it might be a bit boring to watch but against those types of teams it’s the best way to reduce goals they can score, but you also have to be able to finish your transitions and we couldn’t.”
