Strong start from Tottenham Hotspur

With the title already secured, Sonia Bompastor used the game against Tottenham Hotspur to give some of her players a rest. Despite having a squad loaded with talent, big changes can cause a lack of chemistry. This was evident during the opening 15 minutes. Tottenham Hotpsur broke through on multiple occassions and should have opened the scoring when England sent a cross into the box for Grant, who was just too late to tap it in.

Tottenham Hotspur found most of their space down the left side, where Lawrence and Mpome struggled with Naz, England and occassionaly Neville.

Chelsea open the scoring

The Champions may not have looked their best but slowly grew into the game. Macario and Rytting Kaneryd linked up to create a promising attack for Chelsea. When Macario broke into the box, she was fouled by Neville, earning the Blues a penalty kick. The USWNT international stepped up and converted from the spot.

Just before half-time, Hannah Hampton made a phenomenal save, when Charli Grant was sent through by Drew Spence. She charged toward Hampton, who came off her line and denied the Australian international. Despite a couple of chances, Tottenham Hotspur failed to level before half-time.

Second Half: Uneventful start

Sonia Bompastor was not happy with the opening ten minutes in the second half. She took Mia Fishel off and brought on Wieke Kaptein. Shortly after the hour mark, Charli Grant made way for Vinberg.

It was a quite start to the second half with few chances. The only real opportunity came for Maika Hamano, whose long-range shot was denied by Lize Kop.

  • Nathalie Bjorn and Naomi Girma were brought on for Mpome and Cuthbert.

Can Tottenham turn it around?

Robert Vilahamn’s side had a terrible season and came into this match on a nine-game winless streak. However, the team showed resilience and made it incredibly hard for Cheslea to maintain their unbeaten run. The introductions of Nathalie Bjorn and Naomi Girma added stability in the back, making it harder for the Spurs to break through.

  • Neville and Holdt off for NildĂ©n and Thomas

Final phase of the game

With a little more than ten mintues to go, Sonia Bompastor made her last changes: Catarina Macario made way for Lola Brown and Beever-Jones came on for Hamano.

A brilliant moment from Lize Kop, when she denied Lawrence’s shot and the rebound that came from NĂĽsken – keeping her team in the game. A total of six minutes was added on. Head coach Vilahamn used the time to introduce Gunning-Williams for Jessica Naz. However, the Spurs were unable to change the outcome and lost 1-0 to Chelsea.
