FC Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Laia Aleixandri on a free transfer, with a contract running until 2029. Earlier in May, Sport reported that the club and the player had already reached an agreement. Aleixandri will add versatility to the Barcelona squad, as she is capable of playing in multiple positions. She returns to the club after eight years, having come through the youth ranks and featured for Barcelona B.

Laia Aleixandri’s message: “The future takes me to where it all started. I grew up with these colours. Here I learned what it means to defend this crest. Now, I’m ready to do it again. Let’s keep moving the world, Culers.”

The players welcome Aleixandri to the team

Alexia Putellas on Laia Aleixandri: “We’ve known her for many years, she came through Barça’s youth academy, and she’s a big Culer. She’s a very talented player, can be versatile, and defensively she has good positioning.” [Rut Vilar]

Aitana Bonmatí: “I’ve shared many years with Laia [Aleixandri], both in Barça’s academy and in the national team, as well as in the Catalan national team. She’s an amazing player; she was City’s best player along with the goalkeeper.” [2024, Núria Claveria].

FC Barcelona has been active in the women’s transfer market, recently being linked to Felicia Schröder, extending Irene Paredes’ contract until 2027, and saying goodbye to Ingrid Engen. Meanwhile, the futures of promising young players such as Bruna Vilamala, Lucía Corrales, Giulia Dragoni, and Martina Fernández remain uncertain.

While the club appeared poised for a major summer of transfers, they must be careful not to exceed Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. According to Roger Torelló, Barcelona has submitted a request to La Liga to exclude both the women’s team and the youth academy from FFP calculations. However, the Spanish Football Federation must review the request, and a decision will not be made in time for the 2025/26 season.
