It had to be decided during the second leg of the Women’s EURO play-offs, as Finland and Scotland did not get past a goalless draw during the first leg. Scotland qualified for in 2017 and went to the 2019 World Cup but missed out on the tournament in 2023. This had to be their way back, but Finland was too strong by 2-0. Finland qualified in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2022. Now they are back for the 2025 edition.

Scotland’s unbeaten streak ended by Finland
The Scotts started out their Women’s EURO 2025 qualifications with a nearly perfect run in the group stage. After their 0-0 draw against Serbia, they won the other matches from Slovakia, Israel and Serbia (second leg). Up next was Hungary, who proved to be a strong opponent during the away match. Scotland managed to win both legs with goals from Thomas (2), Kerr, Cuthbert and Weir.
Reaching the final play-offs was already a huge accomplishment and the last team that had to be beaten was Finland. After the home match ended in a draw, it was not looking good for the Scotts. The second leg in Helsinki Finland ended in a 2-0 win for the home team. The goals were scored by Kuikka 8’ and Lehtola 28’.
If you look at the statistics the match could have ended totally different. Scotland had 17 attempts and 14 corners. Four attempts were on target, two were blocked and 1 hit the woodwork. The others were all off target.
