Arsenal have confirmed that Manuela Zinsberger sustained an ACL injury during a training session ahead of their UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Benfica. Zinsberger is expected to undergo surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Young goalkeeper Amy Liddiard was added to the squad prior to the Benfica game, while Anneke Borbe was not included due to illness. Meanwhile, Daphne van Domselaar will not join the Dutch national team during the international window due to ongoing fitness issues.

During the match against Benfica, both Emily Fox and Steph Catley were forced off in the second half with what appeared to be minor injuries. The upcoming international break should give them time to recover.

Latest Update on Leah Williamson

Head coach Renée Slegers provided an update on Leah Williamson before the Benfica game: “Yeah, she’s progressing well. She did her first session on pitch yesterday, which was good. Exact timeline we’ll have to see day by day, week by week. But we hope to see her back before Christmas. That would be great. But like I said, then everything has to go to plan.”

Plans for the International Window

Slegers also spoke about how the team will approach the break:

“Yeah, it’s always a big reflection moment for us as a staff,” she said. “Especially the first week, we will review both pre-season and the first block of games. And then the second week, we will preview the next block that’s coming up. So it’s always a good moment for us.

“There’s plenty of learnings and plenty of energy is built to start the next block again. And I’m happy there’s a lot of players going to international camps. We’ll have a couple of players at home and everyone will do their thing, but I look forward to the start of block two.”
