Catch up on the latest Women’s Championship transfers. Southampton just signed their fifth player this summer and Charlton Athletic their seventh. The league consists of 11 teams in the 2024/2025 season and starts on the 8th of September. One of the exciting teams to watch is the London City Lionesses. Let’s have a look at the Women’s Championship transfers 2024.

Women’s Championship Transfer News: Extremely exciting summer for Newcastle United

The Women’s Championship club signed some very exciting names for next season. Demi Stokes came over from Manchester City. She brings a lot of experience from the WSL with her and of course form her time with the Lionesses. Then there is Rachel Furness and Shania Hayles from Bristol City, goalkeeper Claudia Moan, Deanna Cooper from Reading, Amy Andrews, Sophie Haywood and now the Nikita Parris rumours.

Nikita Parris her contract just got extended with one season. This was an option in her current contract. Newcastle United is exploring the options of getting Parris to the club.

Major signings for the London City Lionesses

Michelle Kang pulled off another major transfer for the London City Lionesses. Miljana Ivanović joined the club on a deal until 2028. The forward makes the move from LSK Kvinner FK to the Women’s Championship.

Right after that, the club welcomed Shen Mengyu from Celtic. The midfielder signed a three-year deal. To further strengthen the midfielder the London City Lionesses also signed Roddar from Sweden. The player comes over from Hammarby IF and signed a two-year deal.

Perfect Loan Deal for Birmingham City

Ashanti Akpan made her way to Birmingham City for the upcoming Women’s Championship season. The 18-year old just signed a professional contract with Chelsea in 2023 and is ready to start making more minutes. Akpan also represented England at the U19 European Championships, reaching the semi-finals.

Another player that made her way to the club is Tegan McGowan. She left Charlton Athletic and signed a deal with Birmingham City. McGoway also started her career out at Chelsea before leaving to Charlton.

Experienced signing for Charlton Athletic

Ellie Brazil made her way to Charlton Athletic and signed a 1-year contract with the club. The football player has not played in the Women’s Championship before but brings a lot of WSL experience to the table. Brazil spent most of her professional years at Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

“It’s really exciting, it a really great time to be at the club. I think off the back of how close they were last year to promotion I think that our ambitions align with what we want from the season, I’m grateful to be here”, Brazil said.

Sunderland signs new loan player

Keira Flannery comes to Sunderland on loan from West Ham United. Flannery made her West Ham United debut in 2022 against Chelsea and received call-ups for England U19. After signing her first professional contract Flannery went on loan to Reading. I’m really happy, can’t wait to get started and I’m ready to hit the ground running. I really liked what Sunderland were pushing to do, the philosophy and how we wanted to play”, Flannery said.

Sheffield United sign Monique Robinson

The midfielder comes to Sheffield United on a free transfer after her contract at Leicester City expired. Robinson is only 19 years old and will profit from more game time. She made 11 appearances for Leicester. She said the following about her Women’s Champions transfer: “I’m really excited. I was here in the academy and I’m excited to be back. Getting the experience in tier three has really helped me with senior football and I’m ready to take that next step.”

Southampton Women sign full-back

Rachel Brown signed for Southampton on a free transfer. The full-back formerly played for Sheffield United. She made 33 appearances for the club and scored a goal in the Women’s Championship. Brown said the following after signing for her new club: “I’m very excited and very grateful to be here. Southampton have always been a very good club and has been competitive in the Championship. Hopefully, I can really push on and help the team go places this season.”

Brown is not the only new player at Southampton Women. Tara Bourne and Fran Stenson also made their way to the club from Sheffield United. Tara Bourne made over 50 appearances and played against big clubs such as Manchester United. Fran Stenson is a goalkeeper, one of the better ones in the Championship. Southampton also signed a player on load: Freya Gregory. The forward plays for England U23 and Aston Villa.

Princess Ademiluyi on loan to Charlton Athletic

The forward made 13 appearances for West Ham United in the Women’s Super League, but now it’s time for her to play more. She will hopefully do so with Charlton Athletic. Regular game time is great for players from Ademiluyi’s age so Rehanne Skinner was more than happy to loan her to a Women’s Championship club.  

“I feel amazing, it’s the best birthday that I could have wished for. I am very excited to play in the Championship because it’s competitive and can help me find my form and grow into the player I want to be. Looking at the season, the team had previously came so close to promotion, so I felt like I wanted to come here and help make that dream come true. I also believe that working under Karen [Hills] will allow me to progress as a player”, Princess Ademiluyi said.

Charléne Meyong signs for London City Lionesses

The Cameroon international signed a two year deal with the London City Lionesses. The 25 year old midfielder started her career with the Louves Minproff. Her hard work earned her a place at Meizhou Hakka in China and eventually at Stade Reims in France. Now the English competition will see what she has to offer.

“I decided to join London City because the project the coach proposed to me is interesting, especially the task before us this season. I also wanted a new challenge and I am excited to play in England. I like challenges, competition, hard work, and – above all else – respect. Victories are very important to me. I will always [look to] adapt to the coach’s system. If he asks me to attack, I will attack. If he asks me to defend, I will defend. I prefer to do whatever is best for the team”, Meyong said.
