Sara Däbritz has left Olympique Lyonnais and joined Real Madrid as a free agent. The German midfielder enjoyed a successful spell in France, winning six titles with Lyon: three league championships, the French Cup, and two French Super Cups.
Däbritz began her senior career at SC Freiburg in 2012 and stayed there until 2015. She then moved to FC Bayern Munich, where she played until 2019, before transferring to Paris Saint-Germain. In 2022, she joined Lyon.
On the international stage, Sara Däbritz has been a key member of the German women’s national team for many years. She has represented Germany in major tournaments including the 2016 Olympics, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. Most recently, she was named in the squad for UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, which takes place this summer in Switzerland.
Who will be Real Madrid’s next signing
Everton recently announced the departure of Sara Holmgaard, a player strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid. According to Sandra Riquelme (Relevo), only the official announcement remains.
Holmgaard joined Everton in 2022 from Turbine Potsdam and made 19 appearances in the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Everton Head coach Brian Sorensen said: “Sara has been a top professional since she arrived at the Club and has shone on and off the pitch this season. She has enjoyed an impressive year at left-back, whilst supporting her twin Karen through a tough time on the sidelines with injury.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I want to thank Sara for her service and wish her all the very best for the future.”
Holmgaard has also been called up to the Denmark national team for UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. Denmark will face Sweden, Germany, and Poland in Group C, with their opening match set for July 4 against Sweden.
