Everton has confirmed the departure of Sara Holmgaard following the expiration of her contract. The Danish international joined the Toffees in 2022 from Turbine Potsdam. Holmgaard made 19 appearances in the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Everton Head coach Brian Sorensen said: “Sara has been a top professional since she arrived at the Club and has shone on and off the pitch this season. She has enjoyed an impressive year at left-back, whilst supporting her twin Karen through a tough time on the sidelines with injury.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I want to thank Sara for her service and wish her all the very best for the future.”
Holmgaard linked to Real Madrid
According to Sandra Riquelme (Relevo), Real Madrid is interested in signing Sara Holmgaard. While the official announcement is yet to come, it is widely expected that she will make the move to the Spanish club.
Everton aims to sign Japanese International
Tom Garry has reported that Everton is close to signing Hikaru Kitagawa from BK Häcken. She underwent a medical over the weekend, and an official announcement is imminent.
Kitagawa began her senior career with Urawa Reds in 2015, before moving to Albirex Niigata, INAC Kobe Leonessa, and eventually BK Häcken in 2024. The defender signed a two-year deal that runs until the summer of 2026.
Last season, Kitagawa made 28 appearances, scoring four goals and registering three assists.
