The announcement of the Women’s Nations League 2025 dates and the link to qualifying for the World Cup 2027, reminded us to have another look at the tenth edition of the prestigious tournament. The expansion during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was very successful, so the tournament in Brazil will also feature 32 nations. Let’s look at the current key information on the Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil.

Winning the bidding process

Brazil was not the only country to file a proposal for hosting the World Cup in 2027. The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany filed a joined bid. The decision was made through an open vote at FIFA Congress. This was for the first time ever at the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. Brazil received 119 votes while the joint bid only got 78 votes. It’s the first time that a South American nation will host the tournament.

Finding the right host cities through inspections

Hosting the World Cup is no small feat. There need to be multiple cities, where the matches can be played, fans can stay and the tournament can come to life. From the 25th of September until the 11th of October there was a inspection of twelve venues. The tour kicked-off with the Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.

The inspectors assessed the stadiums, transport, airports, technical infrastructure and matters such as ticketing and hospitality. They will pay particularly close attention to the existing stadium infrastructure, pinpointing any areas that need to be enhanced or upgraded to meet the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ hosting requirements.

“Brazil presented 12 very good options, and we’re delighted to be here to conduct such a competitive selection process, which will determine which cities and stadiums will host the tenth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. We’re very much looking forward to bringing the tournament to South America and Brazil for the first time,” said Rhiannon Martin, the Head of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, who is leading the FIFA delegation.

The 12 host city candidates

In November there will be further assessments on training facilities and team hotels. Early next year the final host cities will be announced. There are at least eight stadiums required to host the Women’s World Cup 2027. The dates for the tournament are somewhere in June and July 2027.

She secured her first major tournament win with the USWNT: the Paris 2024 Olympics. Germany won the World Cup twice, while Japan, Norway and Spain won it once. Spain is latest World Champion.

How do nations qualify for the World Cup 2027?
