Burnley have announced the double signing of Yana Daniëls and Jasmine Matthews ahead of the 2025/26 season, continuing a transformative summer for the club. These moves follow the appointment of former Liverpool manager Matt Beard as Burnley’s new head coach, an influential factor in securing the signatures of two players he previously coached at Liverpool.
The additions bring a wealth of Women’s Super League experience to Burnley, as the club strengthens its ambitions in the women’s game.
Yana Daniëls
Yana Daniëls is a versatile, attack-minded player who left Liverpool this summer upon the expiration of her contract. The Belgium international brings extensive experience to the squad, having played in Belgium, the Netherlands, and England.
Daniëls began her career in Belgium, had a brief stint with FC Twente in the Netherlands, and later featured for Anderlecht. In 2017, she moved to England, signing for Bristol City. After one season, she joined Liverpool, then returned to Bristol City for two more campaigns before re-signing with Liverpool in 2021, where she spent the last four seasons.
Internationally, Daniëls has made 45 appearances for Belgium, scoring seven goals.
What Yana Daniëls had to say
“It feels amazing to be here! I like the settings of the training ground and Burnley have such big plans going forwards with the women’s team, so the move felt right. England feels like home to me now and gives me the opportunity to enjoy life outside of football, which I think is really important. The people here have been really friendly too, and it feels like a family club.”
Centre-back Jasmine Matthews
The second signing, Jasmine Matthews, is a highly experienced defender with over 150 appearances in the English top flight. She began her senior career with Bristol City in 2011, spending seven years with the club before a move to Liverpool in 2018. She returned to Bristol in 2019 and then signed for Liverpool again in 2021.
What Jasmine Matthews had to say
“I’m really excited. When I spoke to Matt (Beard) and he said he was coming to Burnley, it was a no brainer for me to come too. I then spoke to Lola (Ogunbote) about the ambitions of this club and when I came down to see the facilities I was blown away, so I can’t wait to get going.
“I have a lot of experience and ultimately that’s why I came here – to try and push Burnley to where they belong, and I’m here to try and win the league.”
