Chelsea achieved the unimaginable during their away game against FC Barcelona. The Blues won with 0-1, giving them a great advantage during the second leg at home. Stamford Bridge is almost sold out and that is exactly what Chelsea needs. Let’s have a look at their previous meetings and the possible starting line ups. The second leg is planned for Saturday the 27th of April at 17:30 GMT.

Chelsea vs Barcelona First Leg
Many of you probably watched the first leg of the Women’s Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona. The Spanish team dominated the first 10-15 minutes, but did not manage to score a goal. Barcelona had the most possession with 66%, but only got one shot on target. It was not what we would expect from Barcelona.
Chelsea only got one chance and took it. Erin Cuthbert scored a beautiful goal after Sjoeke Nüsken delivered some very good work on the edge of the box. In the second half Barcelona thought they got a penalty due to the hands ball from Lawrence. The semi-finals have the VAR to check on these decisions and so they did. It was a hands ball but Paralluelo was off-side so the referees decided on a goal kick.
Barcelona did not come closer to the equalizer. Putellas, Bronze and Vicky López came on to hopefully make a difference, but Chelsea kept their goal clean. Barcelona complained at the referee a couple times due to timewasting, but nothing let to a yellow card for The Blues.
Emma Hayes on victory
The Chelsea coach is currently working her last season for Chelsea. Her next job is coaching the USWNT and restoring their former glory. For now she said the following to DAZN:
“It’s just half-time. Nobody should get carried away with that and to be honest I’m disappointed we didn’t get the second goal. It’s a difficult place to come, they carried out the game plan I asked them to do so from that perspective I’m happy.
“I think I know how to come away from home and get a result. We have not performed against Barcelona at home. We have under-performed when we played at home. Barcelona have another level in them and I think that’s clear. Maybe they don’t feel they were at their best today and we have to anticipate that.”
“We will only be as strong as the crowd that comes out. It’s important we pack Stamford bridge out to give half a chance against the best team in the world. We are at half-time and there is another level to Barcelona.”
