Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Team News & Possible Line-ups

The possible line-ups are derived from previous match days. We take into consideration how strong the opponents are, what players are injured and of course team news before the match.

Team News Liverpool

Amber Whiteley gave an update on Olivia Smith: “Olivia Smith is back in training. The injury wasn’t as bad as we first thought so she should be available for selection this weekend.

“She has been in such good form recently and so clinical in front of goal, so she is really important for the team and our threat going forward.”

Full squad update: “We’re looking OK. We’re without Alejandra, her muscle injury was a little bit worse than expected so we’ll miss her now for the rest of the season.

“And then we’re just waiting to see how Leanne Kiernan is. She picked up another knock in training on the same leg that she got a knock on against Chelsea. So, we need to see how she is after further assessment.

“Olivia wasn’t as bad as first thought. She’s been in full training this week and will be fine for the weekend.”

What the coach has to say:

The head coach during the pre-match press conference:

“It’s really important that we hold onto fifth. That’s the aim for us. It’s the highest we can finish. The teams below us will be wanting to catch us. We’ve got to make sure every week we’re absolutely on our game and we do everything we can to keep fifth place. That starts with Tottenham this weekend.

“We want to keep improving week on week. We’ve made great progress over the past couple of months, but we want to keep pushing on and it’ll be no different next season.”

On moving into fifth position: “We have to take it week by week but that is exactly where we want to be. We know that there are good teams below us and they’ll look to chase us. It’s up to us to keep doing the same things and prepare properly like we always do and keep our foot on the gas.”

On facing Tottenham Hotspur (column): “Tottenham are not on a great run of form but they do pose real attacking threats in their forward line so we’ve got to be mindful of that.

“We need to approach this game with the same energy we started with at Brighton so it will be really important to have that drive and fight about us.”

Team News Tottenham Hotspur

Latest squad update: “No new injuries and Charli [Grant] is back training as well, so it’s only the two suspensions with Drew [Spence] and Eveliina [Summanen] this weekend.”

What the coach has to say:

Robert Vilahamn on finishing the season strong: “It’s a mixture of trying to get some good energy into the last few games to get the result, but the bigger thing is where we need to improve and try to get better for next season.

“You can’t fix everything that’s been going wrong this season in these last three games, but we’re learning a lot, we need to make sure we close this season over the goal line, we need to make sure these last three games we get some points, get some wins and go to the summer break with a better feeling, and make sure we fix everything we need to fix to look better next season.”

On Liverpool: “They changed coach, they have had a few really good results and I think they have a decent squad. We are quite near them; it’s a game where we want to show we are better than Liverpool. We want to show that we are “best of the rest”, or whatever you want to call it, from the top four, and they are “best of the rest” according to the table, so we need to make sure we start winning against them. It’s a tough game, they have some good players and had some results lately.”

Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Previous Meetings & Stats

Liverpool are yet to lose a home game against Tottenham Hotspur. While the Reds were defeated by Spurs in both the WSL and Women’s League Cup back in 2022, they bounced back since – either drawing or winning in the four games that followed. Now, they face Robert Vilahamn’s side, who have been struggling to win for three months. A great opportunity for Whiteley’s team to solidify their hold on fifth place in the table.

Tottenham Hotpsur haven’t won a single match since their Women’s Super League game against Cyrstal Palace in January. Since then, they suffered six back-to-back losses, barely held Leicester City to a 1-1 draw and lost to Aston Villa last weekend. Can Tthey turn it around in the final three matchdays?
