Atlético Madrid Women have confirmed the departures of Andrea Medina, Vilde Bøe Risa, Sheila Guijarro and Patricia Larqué at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The summer exits come after a disappointing campaign for Atlético, who finished fourth in Liga F and missed out on qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The club ended the season 13 points behind third-placed Real Sociedad, increasing pressure for significant squad changes ahead of next season.
Among the departing players, Andrea Medina and Vilde Bøe Risa leave particularly notable gaps in the squad following their importance to the team over recent seasons.
Andrea Medina Attracting Manchester United Interest
Andrea Medina joined Atlético Madrid in 2022 and developed into one of the club’s most consistent performers. Across four seasons, the Spanish defender made 130 official appearances, including 103 in Liga F and 10 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The 21-year-old also played a key role in Atlético’s Copa de la Reina triumph during her first season at the club.
According to journalist Irati Vidal, Manchester United are among the clubs monitoring Medina ahead of the summer transfer window. The highly-rated left-back is considered one of the brightest young defensive talents in Spanish women’s football.
Why Manchester United Want Medina
Manchester United are believed to value Medina’s versatility, athleticism and composure in possession. Although naturally a left-back, she is also capable of operating centrally in defence, giving tactical flexibility to any side she joins.
Her aggressive pressing, attacking overlaps and technical quality fit the profile of the modern full-back, while her maturity at such a young age has attracted growing interest across Europe.
With Marc Skinner expected to strengthen United’s defensive options this summer, Medina could emerge as a serious transfer target.
Vilde Bøe Risa Leaves After Three Seasons
Norwegian international Vilde Bøe Risa also departs Atlético Madrid despite signing a contract extension in 2025 amid reported interest from Bayern Munich.
The midfielder joined Atlético from Manchester United in 2023 after two seasons in England, where she made 44 appearances and scored eight goals.
During her time in Madrid, Bøe Risa established herself as an important figure in midfield, making 109 appearances across all competitions. Her experience at both domestic and Champions League level is likely to attract interest from several European clubs this summer.
Sheila Guijarro and Patricia Larqué Also Depart
Forward Sheila Guijarro leaves after making 86 appearances for Atlético Madrid since arriving in 2023.
Goalkeeper Patricia Larqué will also depart the club following three seasons in Madrid, having made 15 appearances across all competitions.
