Emma Moreno will spend a second consecutive season with Eibar after Atlético Madrid renewed the midfielder’s contract until 2028. Another loan can sometimes suggest that a young player’s route towards her parent club has become uncertain. Moreno’s situation looks different.
She made 29 official appearances for Eibar last season, gained sustained experience in senior football and finished the summer as a European champion with Spain’s Under-19 team.
Atlético have decided that the best next step is not a new club or an immediate return to Madrid. It is another year in an environment where Moreno is already playing.

Moreno no longer needs a loan merely to discover whether she can operate outside academy football.
Her second year should be judged by how much influence she can develop within it.

A Second Loan Must Deliver More Than Appearances
Repeating the same arrangement only carries value if Emma Moreno’s role continues to grow. Matching last season’s 29 appearances would confirm consistency. Increasing her responsibility within matches would provide Atlético with more useful evidence about her readiness for their first team.
The renewal shows that Atlético want to retain control of her future. The loan shows they do not believe the moment has arrived to bring her back permanently. By the summer of 2027, Moreno will have completed two full seasons with Eibar and potentially accumulated far more senior football than she could have expected in Madrid.
The question will no longer be whether she needed another loan. It will be whether two years of continuity have prepared her to return and compete for an Atlético place.
