What the coach has to say

Wiegman on another penalty shoot-out: “No. We have trained this. We know what players are capable of. We move on. Of course, we prepare again for a penalty shoot-out as it is always a scenario, but I will not make it a big point. It’s part of the game. Let’s see what we need Tuesday. Tomorrow, we start working on our plan against Italy and hopefully we can keep it a little bit calmer.”

On the quarter-final against Sweden: “I think what we can control of course is the team just fighting to get back in the game. That is what you see. I think that’s a quality that is so strong from this team, that togetherness and fighting back, not playing well and sticking together. That shows so much resilience.

Changing the picture and bringing other players in like Michelle [Agyemang], Chloe [Kelly], they bring different things to the game, and Beth of course [Mead]. That really helped the team in that moment. Also, Sweden in that moment had to adapt to some different things we did and before they could have adapted it was 2-2. That is so powerful of this team, and then luck: today I thought about three times we were out.”
