Hlín Eiríksdóttir has completed a permanent transfer from Leicester City to Malmö FF for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to her spell in the Women’s Super League.

The Iceland international leaves Leicester after joining the club from Kristianstads in January 2025. During her time in the Midlands, the forward made 20 appearances in all competitions before spending the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Fiorentina.

Now, the 26-year-old is heading back to familiar surroundings, returning to Swedish football with one of the country’s most ambitious clubs.

A Return To Familiar Territory

For Eiríksdóttir, the move is not simply about joining a new team. It is also a return to a league where she has already enjoyed some of the most successful periods of her career.

Before moving to England, the Iceland international represented both Piteå IF and Kristianstads in the Damallsvenskan. Those experiences played a significant role in her decision to join Malmö.

“It also feels very good to move to Sweden,” Eiríksdóttir said after the transfer was confirmed. “I had great periods in both Piteå and Kristianstads and I think this move suits me well. It is tough and there are many even matches, I really like that.”

That familiarity should help ease her transition and allow her to make an immediate impact for her new club.

Why Malmö Was An Easy Choice

According to Eiríksdóttir, choosing Malmö required very little convincing. The forward highlighted the club’s size, facilities and footballing philosophy as major reasons behind her decision.

“There were too many reasons why I should choose Malmö FF for me not to do so,” she explained.

“It is a huge and cool club with great conditions and facilities. I like the way the team plays football, I have a pretty good idea after talking to the coaches and watching a few matches.”

Those comments underline the growing appeal of Malmö’s women’s project. The club has invested heavily in recent years and is increasingly viewed as one of the rising forces in Swedish football.

What Malmö Are Getting

Eiríksdóttir arrives with considerable experience despite still being only 26 years old. The Icelandic international has earned more than 50 caps for her country and has competed across Sweden, England and Italy.

Her versatility in attacking areas, combined with her international experience, gives Malmö another proven option as they pursue their ambitions in the Damallsvenskan.

Having already played at major international tournaments and in multiple European leagues, she brings a level of experience that could prove valuable during the second half of the season.

For Malmö, this is not a signing based purely on potential. It is the addition of a player who has already tested herself across several competitive environments.

A Club Chasing Europe

Timing may also have influenced the move. Malmö currently sit third in the Damallsvenskan, level on points with AIK and chasing both Hammarby and BK Häcken in the race near the top of the table.

The stakes are significant. The top three teams in Sweden qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, meaning Malmö have a realistic opportunity to secure European football.

That ambition adds another layer of excitement to Hlín Eiríksdóttir’s arrival. With investment increasing across the Swedish game and growing interest in the league following an all-Swedish Europa Cup final in 2026, Malmö are positioning themselves to become a regular contender both domestically and in Europe.
