Paris FC have completed the permanent signing of Maeline Mendy from OL Lyonnes following the midfielder’s breakthrough season on loan. The 19-year-old has signed until 2031 after establishing herself in Paris FC’s midfield, winning the UNFP Player of the Month award in April and earning her first senior France selection in June.

Mendy arrived in the capital in September 2025 as a young player still searching for sustained first-team football. She begins the new season as a permanent signing expected to become one of the central figures in Paris FC’s long-term project.

One Loan Changed Her Status

Mendy joined Paris FC on loan in September 2025 after progressing through OL Lyonnes’ academy. She did not need long to establish herself. The midfielder became an important part of the team in the Arkema Première Ligue and contributed during Paris FC’s Women’s Champions League campaign.

Her performances earned the UNFP Player of the Month award in April 2026. Two months later, she reached senior international level with France. That progression explains why Paris FC moved to make the agreement permanent. She has already shown that she can influence their midfield in domestic and European competition.

Why Leaving Lyon Became the Right Choice

Maeline Mendy joined OL Lyonnes’ academy in 2022 and signed her first professional contract the following year. She made her way into the senior environment and collected two French championship titles, but regular football required opportunities elsewhere. A loan with RC Strasbourg provided an initial step before she moved to Paris FC.

Lyon confirmed that Mendy wanted to continue her career in Paris after the conclusion of last season. The decision gives her something more valuable than remaining connected to France’s most successful club without a clearly established role. Paris FC already know where she fits and how much responsibility she can handle.

A Contract That Changes the Relationship

During her loan, Paris FC benefited from Mendy’s performances while her long-term future remained with Lyon. The contract until 2031 changes that arrangement completely.

Mendy is no longer a temporary addition whose development could eventually benefit another club. Paris FC can now build part of their midfield around her and influence every stage of what comes next.

Sporting director Gaëtane Thiney described Mendy as one of the leading European talents of her generation, while stressing that her most important development is still ahead. That balance matters. Mendy’s breakthrough season raised expectations, but it should not create the assumption that her progress is complete at 19.

From Revelation to Responsibility

A breakout campaign brings freedom because expectations are initially limited. The season after it presents a different challenge.

Opponents now understand Mendy’s importance. Paris FC have publicly described her as a central part of their plans in both the Première Ligue and Champions League. Her new contract also removes the uncertainty surrounding whether she will remain after the season.

Maeline Mendy must now demonstrate that last year was the beginning of a sustained influence rather than one rapid rise. Paris FC have made their position clear. They do not view her as a promising player passing through from OL Lyonnes. They see her as someone capable of helping define where the club goes next.
