Sporting CP has announced the signings of Carla Armengol, Tânia Rodrigues, and Flor Bonsegundo as the team prepares for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign. In the Portuguese top flight, Benfica has dominated in recent years, winning five consecutive league titles. Sporting CP now sets its sights on changing that narrative this season.
Strenghtening the front line
27-year-old Carla Armengol joins Sporting CP from Real Betis Balompié. The Spanish forward has previously played for FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC, and Deportivo Alavés. This move marks her first time playing outside of Spain after spending her entire career there.
Carla Armengol: “Coming here is motivating for anyone. I’m eager to meet my teammates, start training, and above all, get into the games. I’ve heard great things about this team. They’re always at the top of the league table and play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. It’s a big club, with a lot of history.
“I promise hard work, perseverance, and to give everything in every training session and match. I want to help the team reach its goals. Individually, I want to have a strong season by helping the team with goals and assists. Collectively, I want us to win as many titles as possible.”
Adding Experience to the Midfield
Flor Bonsegundo adds international experience and depth to Sporting CP’s midfield. The 32-year-old Argentine spent the past four seasons with Madrid CFF and has also played for Valencia CF and Sporting Club Huelva.
Flor Bonsegundo: “I’m very happy to be here, and I want to make the most of every moment. I hope it’s a great season for both the team and for me. I’m really excited. Sporting CP is investing heavily in women’s football, and I’m here with the hope of helping the club achieve its goals and end the season with titles. The Portuguese league is growing, Sporting CP has a great project, and I believe that fits me well.”
A Familiar Face in the Back
Tânia Rodrigues returns to Sporting CP after first playing for the club in the 2016/17 season, the year the modern era of the women’s team began. Since then, the full-back has played for Estoril, Torreense, SC Braga, and Racing Power FC.
Tânia Rodrigues: “I was here during the first season after the women’s team was reintroduced, and the growth since then has been incredible. This is a team that aims for titles — and so do I. I won my first title here, and I hope to win more. I can play in several positions — full-back on either side or even as a winger. I’m more prepared now to help the club reach its goals.”
