There are more competitions than just the Women’s Super League in England and the NWSL in the United States. Below we listed a couple of the best Women’s Football Competitions in Europe. These are of course not the only ones, we will add more leagues in the coming weeks. If you have any suggestions on what we missed, sent us a message. Women’s Super League

Established in 2010, it is run by the Football Association and features twelve fully professional teams. The league replaced the FA Women’s Premier League National Division as the highest level of women’s football in England.

La Liga F

The Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino, currently known as the Liga F, is the highest level of league competition for women’s football in Spain. As one of the top six national leagues ranked by UEFA coefficient, it is considered one of the most important women’s leagues in Europe

Serie A Femminile

The Serie A Femminile, is the highest league of women’s football in Italy. Established in 1968, it has been run by the Italian Football Federation since the 2018–19 season, and currently features 10 teams. The most successful club in the league’s history is Torres, who have won seven times.

Frauen Bundesliga

The Frauen Bundesliga  is the top division in German women’s football. The introduction of the Bundesliga was decided by the DFB Bundestag in 1989. In 1990, the game was started in two seasons of ten teams each. Since 1997, the Bundesliga has been played nationwide on a single-track basis, with twelve teams.

Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie

The Vrouwen Eredivisie is the highest women’s football league in the Netherlands. It was established in 2007 as a professional league and played for five seasons. In 2012 the leagues of the Netherlands and Belgium merged. After three seasons the BeNe League folded and the Eredivisie was restarted. The top 2 teams receive a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

National Women’s Soccer League

The NWSL is a professional women’s football league at the top of the United States league system. Headquartered in New York City, it is owned by the teams and, until 2020, was under a management contract with the United States Soccer Federation. There are now 14 teams across the United States.

Scottish Women’s Premier League

The Scottish Women’s Premier League is a fairly new women’s football competition. In 2022 the clubs playing in the top two leagues decided it was time for a change. Ownership and operations of the elite competitions was moved into a new structure: SWPL and the SWPL 2.

Arkema Première League

The French women’s football league has a total of twelve teams compete over 22 match days for the top spots. The club that ends up in first place will face the team in fourth place, and number two and three will go head-to-head. The winners of these semi-finals meet in the final to secure the championship.

Campeonato Nacional

The Portuguese Women’s Football League is well known throughout the world. Benfica was in the Women’s Champions League last season and sits at the top of the table again this year. The League started in 1993 and currently holds twelve teams.

A-League Women

Since the World Cup 2023 Australia has seen an immense increase in the crowds at women’s football matches. The A-League was established in 2008 (formerly W-League) and just hit the most attended season of any women’s sport in Australia in history with a total attendance of 312,199.

In 2023, the Spanish team confirmed their status and topped the world ranking again with 609 points.Winner of the UEFA Champions League, the Liga and the spanish Super Cup, Barcelona won 39 games in 2023 with 2 draws and only one defeat against CFF Madrid. Olympique Lyonnais finished the year second and Corinthians third. The clubs in other competitions are catching up however.
