Tottenham Hotspur Women are reportedly interested in signing Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa Women during the summer transfer window, according to Emma Sanders.
Hanson has enjoyed an outstanding Women’s Super League campaign, scoring 12 goals and registering one assist in 21 appearances. The Scotland international finished as Aston Villa’s top scorer and one of the highest scorers in the WSL this season, attracting interest from clubs looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 28-year-old only signed a contract extension with Aston Villa last year, keeping her at the club until June 2027. However, Tottenham’s reported interest raises questions over whether Villa could face a battle to keep one of their most influential players.
Tottenham are expected to be active in the transfer market following the announcement that club captain Bethany England will leave this summer. During a recent press conference, head coach Martin Ho suggested that much of Spurs’ transfer business had already been planned earlier in the year, leading to speculation that Hanson could already be among the club’s top targets.
If a move materialises, Kirsty Hanson would represent a major addition to Tottenham’s attacking line. Her pace, directness and eye for goal could help fill the void left by England’s departure while giving Spurs a proven WSL goalscorer entering her prime years.
Tottenham continue squad reshuffle
Alongside potential arrivals, Tottenham have already begun shaping their squad for next season. The club recently confirmed a new long-term contract for Olga Ahtinen, who has become an important part of the midfield since joining in the 2023/24 season.
The Finland international has made 55 appearances for Spurs and scored three goals so far. Ahtinen also brings valuable UEFA Women’s Champions League experience from her time with Brøndby IF Women.
However, several departures have also been announced. In addition to Bethany England, Kit Graham will leave the club this summer after six years in North London. Graham was part of the first Tottenham Hotspur Women side to compete in the Women’s Super League and played an important role during the club’s rise in the women’s game.
Tottenham have also confirmed the exits of Amy James-Turner, Luana Bühler, Charlotte Grant and Josefine Rybrink as the club prepares for a new era under Martin Ho.
What would Hanson’s departure mean for Aston Villa?
Losing Hanson would be a major blow for Aston Villa. The forward has been nominated for WSL Player of the Season after delivering some crucial performances throughout the campaign.
One of her 12 league goals helped secure Aston Villa’s first win of the season, underlining her importance to the squad. Hanson also appears to remain firmly in the plans of head coach Natalia Arroyo, especially after signing a new contract extension less than a year ago.
Villa’s attacking options are already beginning to thin out following the departures of Gabi Nunes and Ebony Salmon. With Rachel Daly and Chasity Grant expected to lead the line next season, further reinforcements may be needed if Hanson also leaves the club this summer.
For Tottenham, meanwhile, signing one of the WSL’s standout forwards could send a strong statement ahead of next season and signal the club’s ambitions to climb higher up the table.
