According to IRP and Soccerdonna, Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain captain Sakina Karchaoui. The reported interest stands out because Arsenal would not simply be adding another midfielder to an already crowded squad. They would be targeting one of the most influential players in French football.

Karchaoui remains a key figure for both PSG and France, combining creativity, ball progression and attacking output from a variety of positions. Last season she contributed seven goals, five assists and 53 key passes across all competitions while continuing to serve as one of PSG’s leaders on and off the pitch.

The football argument is easy to understand. The more difficult question is whether PSG would be willing to sell a player who remains central to almost everything they do.

Transfer Snapshot

  • Position: Left-Back / Midfielder
  • Current Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Why Arsenal Like The Idea

Few players combine defensive reliability, attacking output and positional flexibility at the level Arsenal have become accustomed to over recent seasons. Sakina Karchaoui is one of the few left-footed players in Europe capable of offering all three.

Although primarily a midfielder, she has regularly operated as a left-back. That versatility would be particularly valuable for a squad competing across the Women’s Super League, UEFA Women’s Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

The statistics underline her influence. Last season Karchaoui registered:

  • 7 goals
  • 5 assists
  • 53 key passes
  • 12 goal involvements

Those are remarkable numbers. The 53 key passes stand out in particular. They reflect a player who is not simply contributing occasional crosses but consistently creating opportunities for teammates throughout a season.

More Than An Attacking Full-Back

What separates Sakina Karchaoui from many attack-minded midfielders is her ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game. She is an aggressive defender, a strong ball carrier and one of PSG’s most important progressive passers. Last season she completed 827 passes at an accuracy of just over 80 percent while also contributing 46 tackles and 16 interceptions.

At just 1.59m, Karchaoui is unlikely to dominate aerially, but she compensates through anticipation, recovery speed and her ability to win possession before opponents can exploit space. The result is a player who influences games in possession without becoming a defensive liability.

That balance is one reason she has remained such an important figure for both PSG and France.

Why PSG May Not Want To Sell

This is where the rumour becomes complicated. Arsenal are not being linked with a squad player or a fringe starter. They are being linked with PSG’s captain.

Sakina Karchaoui remains one of the first names on the team sheet and one of the club’s most influential players in possession. Her output, leadership and versatility make her difficult to replace, particularly given the current market for elite left-sided defenders.

Her contract also runs until 2028. That dramatically changes the dynamics of any potential negotiation. PSG are not under pressure to sell and reports suggest the French club are keen to keep her and extend her stay further. From their perspective, there is little obvious reason to entertain offers unless the player actively pushes for a move.

Where Would She Fit At Arsenal?

The most obvious role would be on the left side of the midfield. Her ability to progress the ball, create chances and contribute in advanced areas would immediately give Arsenal another attacking weapon from deep positions. There is also the possibility of using her further forward in certain matches.

However, the club has also signed multiple midfielders this summer already: Geraldine Reuteler and Georgia Stanway, while newcomers Selina Cerci and Lisa Baum are also attacking players. So the interest in of Karchaoui would mainly be as a replacement for Katie McCabe.

Why It Matters

The football argument is easy to make. Karchaoui’s creativity, versatility and experience would improve almost any squad in Europe. The harder question is whether Arsenal can persuade PSG to part with a player who remains central to their plans, wears the captain’s armband and is contracted for several more years.

That is why this rumour feels significant. Not because Arsenal want her, but because PSG may have every reason to keep her.
