Serie A champions Roma announced three signings in one day, adding Elisabetta Oliviero, Martina Piemonte and Sofia Jahnukainen to their squad.
The deals cover three different stages of recruitment. Oliviero arrives with 196 Serie A appearances. Piemonte returns after previously representing Roma during the 2018-19 season. Jahnukainen is a young Finnish forward whose contract runs until 2030.
Roma won 17 of their 22 league matches last season, losing only once while scoring 44 goals and conceding 19. Their summer business is therefore not an attempt to repair a failing team. It is an effort to ensure that a championship-winning squad remains difficult to catch.
Oliviero Removes the Need for Adaptation
Oliviero’s greatest value is not simply the number of matches she has played. It is where she played them. The wide player has accumulated 196 Serie A appearances across spells with Cuneo, Sassuolo, Napoli, Empoli, Sampdoria and Lazio, scoring 10 goals.
Roma already know how her qualities translate to the competition they are trying to win again. Oliviero understands the league, its opponents and the weekly demands of Italian football, reducing the uncertainty that can accompany an overseas signing.
Her development has also brought international recognition. Oliviero has been regularly involved with Italy’s senior team since February 2024 and was part of the squad at Euro 2025.
A contract until 2029 suggests Roma expect her contribution to extend beyond one title defence. She arrives ready to compete immediately, but with enough time to become an established part of the squad.

Piemonte Returns as a Different Forward
Piemonte’s signing contains familiarity without representing a return to the same point in her career. She previously played for Roma in 2018-19, making 22 appearances and scoring six goals. Her career has since taken her through Italy, Spain and England before bringing her back to the Italian capital.
Roma are not recruiting the forward who left seven years ago. They are signing a player whose game has been shaped by several leagues and different footballing environments. Piemonte will again wear the No.18 shirt and has signed until 2029.
Her previous Roma experience should make the club itself familiar, but the team she returns to has changed considerably. Roma are now defending champions, and Piemonte must earn her role inside a side that scored an average of two league goals per match last season.
The return is therefore not built around nostalgia. It is about whether the experience collected since 2019 can provide something useful to the current champions.

Jahnukainen Represents the Longer View
Jahnukainen’s contract carries Roma’s planning beyond those of the other two arrivals. The Finnish forward has signed until 2030 after spending the past two seasons with HJK, where she recorded six goals and 10 assists.
Her statistics show that she can create as well as score. Sixteen direct goal contributions provide an encouraging foundation, although moving to the Italian champions will introduce a different level of competition for places.
Jahnukainen began her career with Keski-Uusimaa before moving to HPS and then HJK. Roma become the next and most demanding step in that progression.
The club do not need her development to be completed immediately. A contract through 2030 gives Roma time to assess which attacking role suits her and how quickly she can become a regular senior contributor.
That patience must still include a pathway to meaningful football. A long contract protects Roma’s investment, but Jahnukainen’s progress will depend on opportunities rather than time alone.

Three Deals With Different Purposes
Announcing three players together can make them appear to be parts of the same solution. Roma’s choices are more varied.
Oliviero provides extensive knowledge of Serie A and can enter the squad without learning a new competition. Piemonte offers a senior forward with experience abroad and a previous connection to the club. Jahnukainen gives Roma an attacking player whose best years may still be some distance ahead.
The contracts reinforce those differences. Oliviero and Piemonte are secured until 2029; Jahnukainen receives an additional year to develop. Roma are building for the coming title defence without limiting their thinking to it.
The Champions Refuse to Stand Still
Roma’s league record created a difficult question for their recruitment team: how do you improve a side that won 17 matches, lost once and finished as champions?
The answer is not necessarily to replace the players who delivered the title. It is to create more options around them and prepare for different stages of the seasons ahead.
Roma have already seen important players leave, including Emilie Haavi’s move to Como. The arrivals of Oliviero, Piemonte and Jahnukainen begin to show how those changes will be managed.
The three signings do not guarantee that Roma will retain their title. They demonstrate that the club understand last season’s success cannot be treated as protection against their rivals improving. Roma won the Serie A Femminile by setting the standard. Their latest recruitment is designed to ensure they can continue carrying it.
