Manchester City Women have secured one of the biggest deals of the summer after Khadija “Bunny” Shaw agreed to a new four-year contract extension with the club.
The Jamaica international had been heavily linked with a move away from City following the club’s Women’s Super League title-winning campaign, with Chelsea reportedly among the clubs interested in signing the striker. However, City have now ended speculation surrounding Shaw’s future by tying the prolific forward down to a long-term deal that will keep her at the club until 2030.
Bunny Shaw Rewarded After Record-Breaking Season
Khadija Shaw’s new contract comes after arguably the best season of her career. The Manchester City striker played a decisive role in the club’s 2025/26 Women’s Super League triumph, scoring 21 goals in 22 league appearances to win the Golden Boot.
In doing so, Shaw became the first player in WSL history to score 20 or more goals in three separate seasons, another remarkable milestone in what has already become one of the league’s most dominant attacking careers.
Her performances also earned her both the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award and the WSL Player of the Season award. Despite already winning the league title, Shaw and Manchester City could still complete the season with another trophy when they face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s FA Cup final.
One of the Greatest Goalscorers in WSL History
Since joining Manchester City in 2021, Shaw has established herself as one of the most prolific forwards in women’s football. Across five seasons with the club, the striker has recorded an extraordinary 145 goal contributions in 137 appearances, scoring 117 goals and providing 28 assists.
Her 83 Women’s Super League goals place her among the competition’s all-time leading scorers, behind only Vivianne Miedema and Bethany England.
More importantly for City, Shaw is the focal point of Andree Jeglertz attacking system. Her combination of physicality, movement and finishing ability makes her one of the most complete forwards in Europe.
Chelsea Interest Highlighted Shaw’s Importance
Reports linking Khadija Shaw with Chelsea underlined just how highly she is valued across women’s football. The London club were believed to be seriously interested in bringing the Jamaican international to Stamford Bridge as they continue rebuilding their squad following a disappointing domestic campaign.
For Manchester City, retaining Shaw became a priority. Keeping the league’s most clinical striker sends a major statement about City’s ambitions to remain at the top of English and European football.
Bunny Shaw Reacts to New Manchester City Deal
Speaking after signing her new contract, Shaw expressed her happiness at continuing her journey with Manchester City.
“I’m so happy to be at this incredible Club for another four years. I’ve always said that Manchester City feels like home – I’ve developed so much as a player and grown so much as a person during my first five years here.
“Helping the girls win the WSL title is one of the proudest moments of my career, and I’m so excited to see what we can do next season and beyond – although there’s one more huge game to come against Brighton!
“To the City fans – thank you for always supporting us all. I’m so happy to be on this memorable journey with you all and can’t wait to see what we can achieve in the future.”
Massive Boost for Manchester City’s Future
With Shaw now committed long term, Manchester City have secured the centerpiece of their attack for years to come. At a time when Europe’s biggest clubs are aggressively strengthening their squads, keeping one of the world’s best strikers could prove just as important as making a major new signing.
For City supporters, Shaw’s renewal may feel like the club’s biggest victory of the summer.
