FC Barcelona Femení may have completed one of the greatest seasons in women’s football history, but major decisions now await behind the scenes. Just days after lifting the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy with a dominant 4-0 victory over OL Lyonnes in Oslo, uncertainty surrounds the futures of several key players.

Ewa Pajor opened the scoring in the 55th minute before doubling Barça’s advantage 14 minutes later. Salma Paralluelo added two more goals to seal Barcelona’s fourth Women’s Champions League title and complete a historic quadruple-winning campaign.

However, despite the celebrations, the club faces a crucial summer. According to reports from journalist Ángel Pérez, seven important figures, including Alexia Putellas, Ona Batlle, Mapi León, Salma Paralluelo and head coach Pere Romeu, are approaching the end of their contracts.

Ona Batlle Linked with Arsenal Move

Spain international Ona Batlle is reportedly close to a move to Arsenal in the Women’s Super League.

Batlle developed through Barcelona’s academy system before leaving for Manchester United, where she established herself as one of Europe’s top full-backs. During her three seasons in England, she won Manchester United’s Player of the Season award and became one of the league’s standout defenders.

She returned to Barcelona in 2023 and immediately became a key part of the squad that won Liga F, the Copa de la Reina, the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Across two seasons back in Catalonia, Batlle made more than 70 appearances and contributed both defensively and offensively from the right flank.

Internationally, Batlle has become a central figure for Spain. She played every match during Spain’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup triumph and was also part of the squads that reached the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final and the semi-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Why Arsenal wants to sign Batlle

Arsenal’s interest makes tactical sense. Batlle’s pace, technical quality and ability to progress the ball would fit naturally into Renée Slegers’ system. She is comfortable operating high up the pitch, thrives in possession-based football and can influence matches on both sides of the ball.

The Spain international could also become an ideal long-term replacement for Katie McCabe. While McCabe has been one of Arsenal’s most important players in recent years, Batlle offers a similar intensity and attacking presence from wide areas, while bringing additional defensive composure and versatility across the backline.

Mapi León Set for London City Lionesses

Defender Mapi León also appears set to leave Barcelona this summer after nearly a decade at the club. León joined Barça from Atlético Madrid in 2017 and became one of the defining players of Barcelona’s modern era. Known for her aggressive defending, elite passing range and leadership qualities, she played a crucial role in Barça’s rise to European dominance.

Reports now link the Spain international with London City Lionesses, one of the fastest-growing projects in women’s football. Backed by ambitious investment, the club is attempting to establish itself as a major force in England. León’s experience and winning mentality would represent a significant statement signing for the London side.

Alexia Putellas Future Remains Biggest Question

The future attracting the most attention remains that of captain Alexia Putellas.

A Barcelona icon, Putellas joined the club in 2012 and helped transform Barça Femení into one of the most successful teams in world football. During her time at the club, she has won multiple Liga F titles, domestic cups and Women’s Champions League trophies while also becoming a two-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Despite remaining an influential figure alongside Aitana Bonmatí and Patri Guijarro, uncertainty continues surrounding her contract situation. Reports in Spain suggest London City Lionesses are also interested in signing the midfielder.

With Barcelona’s final home fixture approaching, speculation surrounding Putellas continues to grow. If an agreement is not reached soon, attention will inevitably turn toward whether supporters could be witnessing the final weeks of one of the club’s greatest-ever players.

Marta Torrejón Yet to Decide Next Step

Veteran defender Marta Torrejón also faces an uncertain future. The experienced full-back remains a respected leader inside the dressing room and continues to provide valuable depth and experience within the squad.

Barcelona are expected to undergo changes this summer, making Torrejón’s leadership even more important during a transitional period. Whether she continues as a player or moves into a different role within the club remains unclear.

Salma Paralluelo and Graham Hansen Expected to Stay

While several futures remain unresolved, Barcelona are confident about keeping two major stars.

Salma Paralluelo has reportedly received a contract renewal offer from the club. After scoring twice in the Champions League final, her market value has increased significantly, attracting interest from clubs across Europe. Barcelona remain hopeful of securing her long-term future as one of the brightest young talents in world football.

Meanwhile, Caroline Graham Hansen is expected to sign a new deal with the club. Reports indicate an agreement has already been reached, with only the official announcement still pending.

Pere Romeu Close to Contract Renewal

Head coach Pere Romeu is also expected to continue with Barcelona. Romeu guided the club to another historic season and reportedly reached a verbal agreement over a contract extension before the Champions League final. Final financial details are still being completed, but Barcelona are confident the renewal will soon be finalized.

A Defining Summer for Barcelona Femení

Barcelona’s dominance on the pitch has established the club as the benchmark in women’s football. However, this transfer summer could define the next phase of the project.

With experienced leaders potentially departing and Europe’s richest clubs increasingly targeting Barcelona’s stars, the decisions made in the coming weeks may shape the future of Barça Femení for years to come.
