Juventus Women are preparing for a major new chapter after reports emerged that head coach Massimiliano Canzi is set to leave the club following a disappointing end to the season.

According to Italian journalist Mauro Munno, former Spain women’s national team coach Montse Tomé has emerged as the leading candidate to take over in Turin as Juventus begin reshaping both the squad and coaching structure ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

End of the Road for Massimiliano Canzi

Canzi initially enjoyed a dream start to life at Juventus after arriving in 2024.

In his first season in charge, the Italian coach guided Juventus Women to a domestic treble, winning Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. The club rewarded him with a contract extension running until 2027 following one of the most successful campaigns in recent team history.

However, Juventus struggled to maintain that level during the 2025/26 season. The Bianconere finished third in Serie A with just 11 wins from 22 league matches and ended the campaign with a painful 1-0 defeat against Roma in the Coppa Italia final. Following the disappointing season, Juventus now appear ready to move in a different direction.

Why Montse Tomé Is Juventus’ Top Target

Montse Tomé is currently the strongest candidate linked with the Juventus Women job.

The Spanish coach became one of the most prominent figures in women’s football after taking charge of Spain in September 2023 following the departure of Jorge Vilda. Prior to becoming head coach, Tomé had spent five years working as Vilda’s assistant with the national team.

Her appointment came during one of the most turbulent periods in Spanish football history, with the federation still dealing with the fallout surrounding former president Luis Rubiales. Despite the pressure and instability surrounding the national team, Tomé achieved significant success with Spain.

Montse Tomé’s Achievements With Spain

During her time in charge of La Roja, Tomé helped Spain remain among the elite nations in women’s football.

Her achievements included:

  • Winning the UEFA Women’s Nations League in 2024
  • Retaining the Nations League title in 2025
  • Guiding Spain to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games semi-finals
  • Reaching the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final

Although Spain ultimately lost the EURO 2025 final to England, Tomé’s tactical approach and ability to manage a highly talented squad strengthened her reputation across Europe. The Royal Spanish Football Federation decided to part ways with Tomé before the tournament began, with Sonia Bermúdez later appointed as her successor.

What Tomé Could Bring to Juventus

Juventus are searching for stability after an inconsistent campaign, and Tomé’s profile appears to fit the club’s long-term ambitions.

The Spanish coach is known for her possession-based football, structured build-up play and emphasis on technical quality, principles that align closely with Juventus’ desire to modernize their women’s project.

Her experience managing elite international players could also prove valuable as Juventus attempt to close the gap on Europe’s strongest clubs.

Juventus Women Already Beginning Summer Rebuild

While the coaching situation remains unresolved, Juventus have already started shaping the squad for next season. The club recently extended Chiara Beccari’s contract until 2029, underlining their long-term faith in one of Italy’s brightest young attacking talents.

Beccari joined Juventus’ academy in 2019 at just 15 years old and has since developed into an important first-team player. Despite still being only 22, she has already made 70 appearances for the club while winning multiple domestic trophies.

Juventus have also secured the permanent signing of Portuguese forward Ana Capeta from Sporting CP. Capeta initially joined on loan in February but quickly impressed with her movement, versatility and attacking quality, convincing the club to activate their purchase option.

Meanwhile, Juventus confirmed that Germany international Paulina Krumbiegel will leave the club this summer after two seasons in Turin. Krumbiegel made 67 appearances across all competitions and scored eight goals during her time with the Bianconere.

Defining Summer Ahead for Juventus Women

After several years as Italy’s dominant force, Juventus Women now find themselves entering a transitional period. The appointment of the club’s next head coach could define the direction of the project for years to come.
