Eintracht Frankfurt have strengthened their attack by signing Dutch striker Danique Tolhoek from Ajax, securing one of the Netherlands’ most promising young forwards on a contract until June 2029.

At just 21 years old, Tolhoek arrives in Germany after establishing herself as one of the Eredivisie’s most productive attackers, bringing an impressive goalscoring record and growing international experience to a Frankfurt side eager to take the next step both domestically and in Europe.

Why Frankfurt Wanted Tolhoek

Goals. That was the clear message from sporting director Babett Peter after confirming the transfer. Frankfurt believe Tolhoek can improve the team’s efficiency in front of goal, an area the club identified as one of its priorities heading into the new season.

The numbers explain why. During her time with Ajax, the striker scored 33 goals and provided 10 assists in just 54 league appearances. She also played a key role in Ajax’s 2024 KNVB Cup triumph, scoring twice in two matches during the competition.

Beyond her finishing ability, Tolhoek offers intelligent movement inside the penalty area and the technical quality to link play, making her more than simply a traditional number nine.

A Rapid Rise Through Dutch Football

Tolhoek has progressed quickly through the Dutch football pyramid. Her goalscoring exploits at youth international level were particularly remarkable. Between 2022 and 2024 she scored 27 goals in 28 matches for the Netherlands Under-19 side, becoming the highest scorer of her generation.

She has since stepped up to the Under-23 national team before making her senior Netherlands debut in late 2025 during a 2-1 victory away to Portugal. That progression reflects a player who has consistently adapted every time the level has increased.

European Experience Before Germany

Although still only 21, Tolhoek already arrives with valuable European experience.

She featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Ajax, including appearances during the group stage, before helping the Dutch club reach the knockout rounds of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup last season.

Across six Europa Cup matches, she contributed two goals and two assists, demonstrating she can influence games beyond domestic competition. That experience should prove valuable as Frankfurt prepare to compete in Champions League qualifying this summer.

A Move That Benefits Both Club And Player

For Frankfurt, this is an investment in one of Europe’s emerging attacking talents rather than an established superstar.

For Tolhoek, it offers the opportunity to test herself in one of Europe’s strongest leagues while joining a club with regular ambitions of competing for European qualification.

Speaking after completing the move, the Dutch forward described Frankfurt as “a big and special club” with ambitious objectives, adding that she wants to help the team compete for trophies while continuing her own development.

Why This Transfer Matters

Women’s football continues to reward clubs capable of identifying elite talent before players reach their peak. Frankfurt appear to believe Tolhoek belongs in that category.

She arrives with an outstanding scoring record, experience in European competition and a long-term contract that reflects the club’s confidence in her potential. If she adapts quickly to the Frauen-Bundesliga, Frankfurt may have secured one of the league’s most exciting young forwards for years to come.
