Benfica have announced the signing of Diana Silva on a contract running through 2028. The Portuguese international joins from rivals Sporting CP, where she spent the last four seasons.

Diana Silva brings a wealth of experience to Benfica, having played for Atlético Ouriense, Clube de Albergaria, Sporting CP, Aston Villa, and now the Lisbon giants. On the international stage, she is equally accomplished, with over 100 caps for the Portugal women’s national team.

What Diana Silva had to say

“Right now, I can say that I am very happy to sign for one of the best clubs in the world. I can’t say it any other way, I think Benfica has put their trust in me, and I also want to contribute to the club’s titles. Because I know it’s a very demanding club, the fans are very demanding, but that’s a positive thing, and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“The message I want to leave [to the fans] is that I will always give my best on the pitch, and I hope they will always be on my side and on our side”

“I think it’s a positive thing that I know some of the players on the squad, having played with them before. It might make it easier to adapt because of that, but I don’t expect it to be easy overall. I think I’m a fast, intelligent player who can also contribute to the team and play for the team. I think those are perhaps my greatest characteristics.”

Preparing for the 2025/26 season

Benfica compete in the Campeonato Nacional Feminino, Portugal’s top-tier women’s football league. Last season, they claimed their fifth consecutive league title, finishing the campaign unbeaten with 20 wins and two draws.

Striker Cristina Martín-Prieto won the Golden Boot with 19 goals, helping cement Benfica’s dominance. With Diana Silva added to the roster, the team looks well-positioned to extend their success into the new season.
