Tottenham Hotspur Women have completed the signing of Germany international Shekiera Martinez from West Ham United ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 24-year-old forward arrives on a long-term contract as Spurs continue reshaping their squad following the departure of Bethany England. After impressing during her breakthrough spell in the Women’s Super League, Martinez is expected to play a key role in Martin Ho’s evolving attack.

Martinez expressed her excitement after completing the move to North London.

“I’m delighted to be a Spurs player. This is the perfect next step for my career and also for me to improve as a player. The Club has a really good squad and a good idea of how they want to play, that’s why I’m so happy to be here. When I spoke with Martin, I really felt confident. He wants to help me improve as a player, to bring my strengths to the team and I know he will help me score goals, too.”

Tottenham Had Been Monitoring Martinez for Months

Tottenham Hotspur Women head coach Martin Ho revealed that the club had been following Martinez closely for some time before completing the transfer.

Spurs were not alone in their interest. Martinez quickly established herself as one of the most exciting attacking players in the Women’s Super League after joining West Ham United.

The striker scored 10 goals in just 12 league appearances during her breakthrough campaign with the Hammers. She followed that with another impressive season, scoring six goals, including a spectacular bicycle kick against Manchester United that became one of the standout moments of the campaign.

Her performances in England also earned her a first senior call-up to the Germany national team in October 2025 for the UEFA Women’s Nations League Finals against Spain.

Why Shekiera Martinez Fits Tottenham Hotspur Women

Martinez brings pace, physical presence, and intelligent movement to Tottenham’s front line. Comfortable operating centrally or drifting into wider positions, she offers Spurs a more direct attacking profile and a stronger goal threat in transition.

Her ability to stretch defensive lines, combine with midfield runners, and attack space inside the penalty area gives Tottenham greater tactical flexibility heading into next season.

Martin Ho believes the Germany international still has significant room for development despite her rapid rise in the Women’s Super League.

The Tottenham head coach reportedly sees Martinez as a player capable of reaching another level under the right guidance, particularly in her off-ball work and decision-making in advanced areas. However, the club views her mentality and technical qualities as major strengths for the future.

Martinez’s Journey from Germany to the WSL

Shekiera Martinez began her career with SV Gläserzell and FV Horas before joining Eintracht Frankfurt’s academy in 2016. During her time in Germany, she made more than 100 appearances for Frankfurt across all competitions, including matches in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

In 2024, Martinez joined West Ham United before spending the first half of the season on loan at SC Freiburg. After arriving in the Women’s Super League in January 2025, she quickly adapted to English football and became one of West Ham’s most dangerous attacking players.

Her development over the past two seasons has now earned her a high-profile move to Tottenham Hotspur Women as the club looks to continue building under Martin Ho.

Tottenham Hotspur Women Preparing for Crucial Summer

With several experienced players departing and a promising season under Martin Ho nearing its conclusion, Tottenham Hotspur Women are entering an important summer transfer window.

Securing Olga Ahtinen on a new contract has provided stability in midfield, but Spurs are still expected to strengthen in both attack and defence if they want to compete for a Women’s Super League top-four finish next season.

Supporters can expect more Tottenham Hotspur Women transfer news in the coming weeks as the club continues shaping its squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
