Bruno Hernández, followed by Maria Tikas, reports that FC Barcelona youth product Bruna Vilamala is set to join Mexican side Club América on a two-year deal. Although her contract with Barcelona was originally set to run until 2026, both parties mutually agreed to terminate it. Vilamala spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League, where she made 16 appearances (13 starts), scored two goals, and provided four assists.
Bruna Vilamala’s club career
Bruna Vilamala progressed through FC Barcelona’s youth academy, joined the B team and eventually made her way into the first team in 2020 against Sevilla at just 17 years old. Unfortunately, she suffered her second ACL injury in 2021 during a friendly international match with Spain. Although she returned to play a year later, she faced further setbacks in the 2023/2024 season.
Due to the lack of minutes, the Spanish club decided to send her on a loan spell with Brighton & Hove Albion. Head coach Dario Vidošić started her in over half of the season’s games, and she made a total of 16 appearances. She contributed with two goals and four assists.
Her reflection on the season
The forward reflected on her season with The Seagulls and only had positive things to say about her time:
“We’ve achieved what we have so far because of the group. We’ve played good football as well, but the girls are so nice and that helps a lot when you are struggling with the games. I didn’t have a lot of minutes after my ACL injury at Barcelona, it can also very hard to play there and get back on the pitch and get minutes. At the end of the day, I just want to play football – Brighton gave me that opportunity to get more minutes.
“I wanted to experience the WSL, get minutes, gain confidence, and enjoy football again. That was my focus, and I’ve achieved that with this group of girls – I am so lucky in this team.
“I want to assist, score goals, and perform well, but I can’t do that without enjoying football. My first focus coming to Brighton was to enjoy the game, and then the other things that came with it.”
