London City Lionesses have secured the long-term future of Jana Fernández, with the Spanish defender signing a new contract that will keep her at the club until the summer of 2029.
The 24-year-old has become an important part of London City’s defence since joining from Barcelona in August 2025. Fernández featured in every league match during the Lionesses’ first Women’s Super League season and was voted the club’s Fans’ Player of the Season for 2025/26.
Her extension gives London City another important piece of continuity as the club looks to build on an impressive first year in the WSL.

Fernández rewarded after impressive first WSL season
Fernández arrived in England last summer after spending her career with Barcelona and quickly established herself as London City’s first-choice right-back.
She appeared in every league match during the club’s maiden WSL campaign, helping London City finish sixth in their first season in the top flight. Her consistency was recognised by supporters, who named her Fans’ Player of the Season for 2025/26.
Fernández also added goals to her contribution from defence. She scored her first London City goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s FA Cup in February before finding the net again in a 1-1 WSL draw with West Ham United in March. Her new contract now keeps her at London City for another three seasons.
Fernández: ‘I feel at home’
Fernández said the direction of the club played an important role in her decision to commit her future.
“Potential, excitement and progress are three words I associate with the club and I’m pleased to commit my future. I feel at home and settled here.”
She added that London City are “building something special together” between the players, staff and supporters.
The extension is another indication that London City are not only focused on bringing established players into the squad but also retaining those who have already become important to the project.
From Barcelona to London City
Fernández brought significant experience with her when she moved to England in 2025.
During her time with Barcelona, the defender won five Spanish league titles, three Copa de la Reina trophies and four Supercopa de España Femenina titles. She was also part of three UEFA Women’s Champions League-winning campaigns.
At international level, Fernández progressed through Spain’s youth teams and won both the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship.
She has since represented Spain at senior level and was part of the squad that finished runners-up at Women’s EURO 2025.
After adapting quickly to English football during her first season, Fernández will now remain part of London City’s plans until 2029.
