Liverpool welcome London City Lionesses to St Helens Stadium on Sunday, 25 October, for a Women’s Super League encounter between two sides whose results have not reflected their attacking numbers in quite the same way.

This Liverpool vs London City Lionesses preview examines Gareth Taylor’s search for a response, the visitors’ remarkable efficiency in front of goal, team news and where to watch. Kick-off is at 2pm GMT.

Where to Watch Liverpool vs London City Lionesses

Liverpool vs London City Lionesses kicks off at 2pm GMT on Sunday, 25 October, at St Helens Stadium. Liverpool FC confirms that the match will be streamed live on the official WSL YouTube channel. Availability may vary by territory.

Liverpool Seek a Change of Fortune

Liverpool are seventh with seven points after six matches. Their latest league outing ended in a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa, followed by a 5-3 Subway Players Cup loss to Manchester United in midweek.

Taylor’s team have scored 10 league goals and conceded eight, but the underlying attacking statistics suggest greater potential. Liverpool lead the WSL for shot accuracy at 41.4% and have won possession in the final third 57 times, second only to Chelsea’s 58.

Cornelia Kapocs has registered 10 shots on target, the highest total among players in either squad. Captain Grace Fisk is also central to Liverpool’s build-up, averaging 93 passes and 108 touches per 90 minutes, both second-best in the division.

Liverpool have taken 14 of their 21 WSL points during the calendar year at home, making St Helens Stadium an important setting for their attempt to halt a five-match league winless run.

London City Arrive in Form

London City are third on 15 points, with 17 goals scored in six league matches. Eder Maestre’s side beat Everton 2-1 last weekend and followed that with a 2-1 League Cup victory away to West Ham on Wednesday.

The visitors have the division’s best shot conversion rate at 17.2% and have scored a league-high 10 first-half goals. Their previous two WSL away victories were emphatic: 4-1 against Charlton Athletic and 6-1 against Tottenham Hotspur.

Danielle van de Donk has contributed three goals and three assists in six league appearances. Maestre nevertheless expects a difficult game, praising Liverpool’s chance creation despite their recent defeats.

Liverpool vs London City Team News

Vivien Endemann is available to start for Liverpool after returning from injury as a substitute against Aston Villa. Lucy Parry and Mari Ward also made their comebacks in midweek.

Sam Kerr has resumed training but will not be ready for Sunday, while Ceri Holland remains unavailable. Taylor has indicated that some returning players, including Mao Itamura, are not yet ready for 90 minutes.

London City’s injury problems are concentrated in defence. Isa Kardinaal sustained ankle ligament damage against West Ham and is expected to be sidelined for months. Maestre could not yet provide firm return dates for Mapi León, Lucy Corrales or Poppy Pattinson.

The shortage has forced changes of position, including Kadidiatou Diani at full-back and María Pérez and Daniela Arques in central defence. Maestre acknowledged the challenge of managing workloads with fewer options available.

Predicted Line-ups

Liverpool (4-1-4-1): Keating; Bernabé, Fisk, Clark, Maclean; Nagano; Endemann, Kapocs, Álvarez, Bergström; Olsson.

London City (4-2-3-1): Lete; Diani, Arques, Pérez, Fernández; Geyoro, Godfrey; Cascarino, van de Donk, Putellas, Goodwin.

Tactical Battle and Head-to-Head

Liverpool’s possession average of 59% is slightly higher than London’s 57.5%, suggesting both teams will want meaningful spells on the ball. Taylor’s side need to turn accurate shooting and high regains into goals, while London City’s early scoring record makes the opening half especially important.

The visitors’ makeshift back line may offer Liverpool opportunities, particularly if Endemann is fit enough to stretch the defence. At the other end, van de Donk’s movement and the visitors’ conversion rate present a serious test for Liverpool’s defensive organisation.

The teams drew 0-0 at Liverpool in January, after London City won their October 2025 meeting 1-0.

Prediction

Liverpool’s attacking numbers indicate they can trouble an injury-hit London City defence, but the visitors have shown greater efficiency and arrive with stronger results. An open contest looks possible.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-2 London City Lionesses.
