Wolfsburg are interested in signing Chelsea forward Mara Alber, according to Soccerdonna. No information has emerged about an offer, fee or whether Wolfsburg are considering a permanent transfer or loan. That distinction will determine what the interest means for Alber’s Chelsea future.
The 20-year-old only joined the Blues from Hoffenheim in July 2025, signing a four-year contract until 2029. She has not yet made her competitive Chelsea debut and spent the second half of last season on loan at Werder Bremen. Wolfsburg’s interest could now keep her in the Frauen-Bundesliga for considerably longer.

Chelsea’s Development Plan Has Barely Started
Chelsea recruited Alber as one of Germany’s leading young forwards after tracking her for several years. She had already made 32 Bundesliga appearances and scored seven goals for Hoffenheim, despite missing much of the 2024/25 campaign through injury. Her international record also included winning the 2022 Under-17 European Championship as joint top scorer and reaching the 2023 Under-19 European final.

That loan was intended to give her the senior minutes unavailable in London while preserving Chelsea’s longer-term control. Wolfsburg’s interest arrives before Alber has had another opportunity to establish herself with her parent club.
Why Wolfsburg Could See an Opportunity
Alber offers flexibility across the attack. She can play from either flank or through the middle, combining one-against-one ability with a scoring threat. Her previous Bundesliga experience also reduces the uncertainty associated with recruiting a young forward from another competition.
A move to Wolfsburg would allow Alber to continue in a familiar league rather than beginning another period of adaptation. It could also provide the German club with a forward capable of covering several roles as they reshape their attacking options.
Interest alone does not reveal how prominent that role would be. Alber would still need to compete for minutes, and no details have been reported regarding Wolfsburg’s proposed plans for her.
The attraction is nevertheless clear: a German youth international with Bundesliga experience remains tied to Chelsea but has not yet found a route into their first team.
Chelsea’s Attack Has Become More Competitive
Alber would return to a Chelsea squad that has continued recruiting. Melvine Malard has joined the attack, while Giulia Dragoni can operate in midfield or wider attacking positions. Those additions increase the number of players competing for the areas Alber can occupy.
That does not mean Chelsea have abandoned their plans for her. Alber’s contract runs until 2029, giving the club time to use another loan if they believe regular football elsewhere remains the best option.
A permanent proposal would create a more difficult decision. Chelsea would need to determine whether Alber’s future value outweighs the immediate benefit of a transfer, especially before she has made a competitive appearance for the club that invested in her development.
Loan or Permanent Transfer?
Mara Alber could continue playing senior football in Germany while Chelsea monitor her progress and retain the possibility of bringing her back. Moving from Werder Bremen to Wolfsburg could place her in a more demanding competitive environment without ending her connection to London.
A permanent transfer would tell a different story. It would mean Alber’s Chelsea spell had passed from signing to development loan and departure without a competitive first-team appearance. That would be an unusually short cycle for a player recruited on a four-year contract.
At present, Soccerdonna has reported interest rather than an agreement. There is no indication that Chelsea want to sell or that Alber has chosen to leave. The important question is therefore not yet whether she will join Wolfsburg. It is what kind of move the German club wants—and whether it fits the plan Chelsea created only a year ago.
