Those statistics do not guarantee the same influence at Atlético, but they indicate that another identical campaign with Barcelona B may have provided fewer answers about her long-term level.
Celia Segura has also appeared in friendly matches for Barcelona’s first team without making an official senior breakthrough. The Atlético loan moves her beyond that waiting stage. She must compete for a place in a new squad, adjust to unfamiliar teammates and show that her goals were not dependent on the environment in which she developed.
Why Atlético Changes the Pressure

Her performances must now earn trust from a different coaching staff inside a club with its own immediate objectives.
Atlético are not required to prioritise Barcelona’s development plan. They have borrowed Segura because they believe she can contribute to their season. That makes the move more demanding, and potentially more valuable, than remaining in a familiar youth structure.
Barcelona Trust a Domestic Rival With Her Development
The destination makes this more interesting than a standard academy loan. Barcelona have agreed to send one of their leading young forwards to Atlético Madrid, a club operating in the same domestic landscape and pursuing its own ambitions.
There is no announced option to buy, so Barcelona retain control over Celia Segura’s future. Atlético receive a forward with recent goals and international momentum without making a permanent commitment.
Both clubs can benefit, but their interests are not identical. Barcelona need Segura to return with stronger evidence that she can contribute at senior level. Atlético need her performances to matter immediately to their own campaign. Segura must satisfy both demands while also advancing her career.
A European Title Does Not Complete the Transition
Segura arrives shortly after winning the Women’s Under-19 European Championship with Spain. It does not remove the uncertainty surrounding senior football. Youth tournaments are important stages in development, but they cannot reproduce the weekly competition for places or physical and tactical demands a player encounters inside an established first team.
Segura’s year at Atlético will reveal more about her readiness than another youth honour could.

Segura has already completed several important steps before turning 20. She debuted for Barcelona B at 15, became a regular starter, reached double figures for goals and won a European title with Spain’s U19s. What she does not yet possess is an established senior role.
Atlético now provide the opportunity to pursue one. The success of the loan should not be judged only by whether Celia Segura scores another 10 goals. Her minutes, ability to earn starts and influence against senior opposition will determine whether she returns to Barcelona prepared for a first-team place.
She leaves home with the reputation of a productive academy striker. The coming season must begin defining what kind of senior forward she can become.
