Everton have completed the permanent signing of England Under-23 defender Hannah Silcock from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old centre-back becomes Everton’s ninth arrival of the summer after spending last season on loan with Birmingham City, where she helped the club win the WSL 2 title.
Silcock remains on Merseyside but leaves the club she joined at eight years old. Her move gives her the opportunity to turn a successful loan campaign into a more established role in the Women’s Super League.

Why Silcock Needed a Permanent Move
Hannah Silcock progressed through Liverpool’s academy and made her senior debut during the 2021/22 campaign.
She appeared five times as Liverpool won promotion from the FA Women’s Championship and added another 17 appearances in subsequent seasons. Loan spells with Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham provided further senior experience, but a consistent role in Liverpool’s first team remained difficult to secure.
Her most recent loan offered the clearest indication that she was ready for greater responsibility. Silcock helped Birmingham win the 2025/26 WSL 2 title, gaining experience inside a team expected to collect results and sustain a promotion challenge. She now leaves Liverpool with two second-tier winners’ medals from different stages of her development.
Everton offer the next test. The move is not another temporary placement designed primarily to provide minutes; it is a permanent opportunity to build a WSL career.
Everton Continue to Rebuild Their Defence
Silcock joins an Everton squad that has also added defenders Hannah Blundell and Naomi Layzell this summer.
Layzell arrived on loan from Manchester City, while Silcock’s permanent transfer gives Everton control over the development of another highly regarded Young Lioness. The two already know each other through England’s youth teams, as does midfielder Ruby Mace.
Those relationships should ease Silcock’s introduction, but familiarity alone will not earn her a starting place. Everton have invested heavily in reshaping Scott Phelan’s squad, and the centre-back must now demonstrate that her performances in WSL 2 can translate to the top flight.
Technical director Nick Cox highlighted the maturity Silcock brings despite her age. That quality may prove particularly valuable for a defender moving from a successful loan into an environment carrying higher weekly demands.
Success With the Young Lionesses
Hannah Silcock’s progress last season was not confined to club football. She helped England win the Under-23 European Competition and scored in the 3-0 final victory over Sweden. Current Everton player Mace captained that side, giving the defender another connection within her new dressing room.
“Winning the tournament was great,” Silcock said. “That was one of my highlights of last season.”
She also pointed to Birmingham’s winning mentality as an experience she wants to bring to Everton.
“To then win the WSL2 was a great experience,” she added. “It was so good to be a part of a winning team that had that winning mentality throughout the group.”
A Local Player With a New Path
Silcock grew up in Mossley Hill in south Liverpool, making the transfer a change of club rather than a change of city. She will now have the chance to play regularly at Goodison Park, a factor she highlighted after completing the move. More importantly, Everton provide a route towards the sustained senior role that was not guaranteed at Liverpool.
Her development has already included academy football, two loans, international success and two promotion-winning campaigns. The remaining question is whether she can establish herself as a dependable WSL centre-back.
Everton have chosen to invest in finding out. Silcock must now turn last season’s progress into top-flight permanence.
