Sheffield United have signed West Ham United midfielder Halle Houssein on loan for the full 2026/27 season, adding a Türkiye international with experience in both the Women’s Super League and WSL2.
The 21-year-old made five appearances for West Ham last season and has played 23 times in all competitions since initially joining the club from Arsenal on dual-registration terms in January 2022. Her move to east London was made permanent five months later.
Houssein will now return to WSL2 in search of more regular senior minutes. She previously spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Reading, making 13 appearances in the division.

A player already known to Stephen Healy
The loan reunites Halle Houssein with Sheffield United head coach Stephen Healy, who previously worked with West Ham’s women’s first team.
That existing knowledge was part of the attraction for the Blades. Healy said Sheffield United had monitored the midfielder for some time and highlighted the balance between her age and senior experience.
“Halle is someone I know from my time at West Ham United and someone we’ve been monitoring for a while, so we’re really pleased to get her to Bramall Lane for the season,” Healy said.
“She fits the profile of players we’ve been signing this summer, someone young enough to develop but experienced in terms of having played senior first-team football at the top level, as well as internationally with Turkey.”
Houssein’s familiarity with the coach should help shorten the adaptation period, while Sheffield United can offer her a clearer route to consistent match involvement than she had at West Ham last season.
Senior experience in England and with Türkiye
Houssein developed in Arsenal’s academy and made her senior debut for the club at the age of 16 in a match against Reading. She subsequently moved to West Ham, where she received further first-team opportunities before returning to Reading for her 2023/24 loan.
Born in England, the midfielder previously represented England at Under-19 level before choosing to play senior international football for Türkiye through her family. She made her Türkiye debut against Switzerland in a UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifier in 2024 and has remained involved with the national-team squad.
That combination of international experience, WSL exposure and a previous season in the second tier gives Sheffield United a player who can contribute immediately while continuing her development.

No option for Sheffield United to make the transfer permanent has been publicly announced.
