Jenni Hermoso has returned to Atlético Madrid for a third spell, signing a contract with her first senior club until 30 June 2027. The 36-year-old Spain international arrives following her time in Mexico with Tigres and will strengthen Atlético’s attacking options during the 2026/27 season.
Hermoso previously represented Atlético at the beginning of her career and returned for the 2018/19 campaign, when her 24 league goals helped the club win its most recent Spanish title.
Back at the club where her senior career began
Born in Madrid, Hermoso entered Atlético’s academy at the age of 12 and progressed into the first team in 2006. She contributed to the club’s promotion to Spain’s top division during that first spell, scoring in a decisive match against Unió Esportiva L’Estartit. She subsequently left Atlético and continued her development with Rayo Vallecano.
Hermoso returned to the club more than a decade later for the 2018/19 season following a year with Paris Saint-Germain.
That second spell produced one of the most prolific league campaigns of her career. Jenni Hermoso scored 24 goals across 28 appearances, finding the net in 17 different matches and finishing as the division’s leading scorer.
Her goals helped Atlético secure a third successive league championship. It remains the club’s most recent Liga F title. Seven years later, the forward is back for a third period in the red and white shirt.
“I have been fortunate enough to choose where I want to be, and today I feel privileged to be able to say that I am in the place where I want to be,” Hermoso said following the announcement.
Hermoso returns after four years in Mexico
The move brings Hermoso back to Spanish club football for the first time since she left Barcelona in 2022. She initially moved to Liga MX Femenil with Pachuca, where she spent two years before joining Tigres in 2024. Her career has also included spells in Sweden with Tyresö and in France with PSG.
In Spain, Hermoso has represented Atlético, Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona, winning domestic titles with all three clubs. Her return provides Atlético with an experienced forward capable of operating as a central striker or in a deeper attacking role. It also adds another player with Women’s Champions League experience to the squad for the new campaign.
World Cup winner back in Madrid
Jenni Hermoso has been part of the Spain senior team since 2012 and helped the country win its first Women’s World Cup in 2023. Spain have subsequently won two UEFA Women’s Nations League titles, giving Hermoso three major international trophies.
Her return to Atlético brings her career back to the club where she first entered senior football 20 years ago. The agreement currently covers the 2026/27 season, with no additional option publicly announced.
Before completing the move, Hermoso passed her medical examination at the Vithas-Invictum High Performance Sports Medicine Centre in Madrid.
