Fiorentina have signed Colombia international Ivonne Chacón from Chicago Stars, bringing the forward back to European football after one year in the NWSL.

The 28-year-old has agreed a contract with the Italian club until 30 June 2028. Neither Fiorentina nor Chicago has disclosed a transfer fee.

Chacón joins a Fiorentina side preparing for the new Serie A Women season after making 18 regular-season appearances for Chicago across the 2025 and 2026 campaigns.

Chacón leaves Chicago after 18 appearances

The forward joined Chicago in August 2025 following two seasons with Levante in Spain. She made five appearances, including one start, during the remainder of the 2025 NWSL season and played 178 minutes. Chacón scored her only Chicago goal in a match against Utah Royals on 5 October 2025.

Her involvement increased during the first part of the 2026 campaign, with the Colombian appearing in 13 matches before completing her transfer to Fiorentina. She started once and accumulated 195 minutes. Chacón leaves the Stars with one goal from 18 regular-season appearances in total.

“We’re grateful for Ivonne’s contributions to the Stars and we wish her the best as she embarks on her new opportunity in Italy,” Chicago Stars president Karen Leetzow said when confirming the transfer.

Return to European football

The move represents Chacón’s second spell in Europe. Born in Bogotá on 12 October 1997, she began her senior career in Colombia with Independiente Santa Fe before playing for Millonarios.

Chacón moved to Spain in 2022 and joined Valencia, where she began competing in Liga F. She later signed for Levante and spent the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons with the club before moving to the United States.

Her experience in Colombia, Spain and the NWSL now gives Fiorentina an additional attacking option as the club prepares for the 2026/27 campaign. The transfer also represents Chacón’s first experience in Italian football.

International experience with Colombia

Chacón has been involved with the Colombia senior national team since 2022 and was selected for the country’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Colombia progressed from a group containing Germany, Morocco and South Korea before beating Jamaica in the round of 16. Their run ended with a 2-1 quarter-final defeat against England, marking the country’s best performance at a Women’s World Cup.

Chacón continued to receive international call-ups during her time in Chicago. She was selected twice after joining the Stars and represented Colombia during the opening matches of the 2025/26 CONMEBOL Women’s Nations League.

At Fiorentina, she will now aim to earn more regular club minutes while remaining part of Colombia’s international plans.
