Sassuolo have completed the permanent signing of Hungary international Luca Papp from Wolfsburg. The midfielder, born in 2002, arrives after previous spells with Ferencváros and the German club. She has competed in the Women’s Champions League, finished second in the Bundesliga and represented Hungary at senior level since 2021.
Papp’s explanation of the transfer, however, was not built around those achievements. She chose Sassuolo because the club convinced her that she was genuinely wanted, and because she wants to rediscover the joy of playing.

Experience That Still Needs a Role
Papp began her senior career with Ferencváros before moving to Wolfsburg. Those clubs exposed her to domestic title races and Women’s Champions League football. She also progressed through Hungary’s U17 and U19 teams before making her senior international debut in 2021.
That résumé gives Sassuolo a midfielder familiar with demanding environments, but experience only becomes useful when it can be applied regularly. Papp now wants to contribute in both Serie A and the cup while becoming a teammate the squad can depend upon on and off the pitch.
Those objectives are less about rebuilding her reputation and more about establishing a consistent purpose within a new team.
Sassuolo Must Turn Trust Into Influence
Papp must learn a new league and demonstrate how her experience can improve Sassuolo’s midfield. The club must provide the clarity and trust that helped convince her to leave Wolfsburg.
Her move is not defined by escaping one club for another. It is about finding an environment in which football feels meaningful again, and converting that feeling into performances Sassuolo can rely upon.
